would you breed to them?

Just having a look at the stallions in BC for next year.

Great Legacy. Ok, on paper, son of Storm Cat, out of the fabulous racemare Affluent. He was sold in a package deal from Darley to Swift Tbs., meaning he didn't quite fit the Darley "mold". The horse ran a couple of times here at Hastings Park. He had speed, but all sorts of problems. I think he ran for a claiming price as low as $8,000. I just don't think pedigree goes a long way anymore. Standing for $1,000.

Even worse...Taraqqi. Son of Kingmambo, 3rd dam produced Scatmandu. He's standing for $2,000!!! I've seen him, he's small. His pedigree is not screaming 6 furlong dirt track, and he didn't do much as a racehorse.

I think you answered your own question.

Cree, have you had a chance to look at the stallions up country? We are standing Cheroot and are looking forward to his first foals early March, he bred a few in Cal. before coming to B.C.. Cheroot is not small stands 17hh, retired sound. Thanks C.

Now, that's what I am saying. How much is Cheroot for? $1250. He's big, good-looking (I saw him run in 2005 in CA), could run and showed it, sound, and his pedigree maybe isn't *royal*, but he's got a good family.
I think Cheroot will do well.

People get a hold of a horse with a fancy pedigree, regardless of what it's done on track, or how sound he was, they stand him at stud.

Thanks for the encouragement Cree. We fell real lucky to have had Andrew Havens set us up with him. Stud fee is $1,250. and our mare care is reasonable.Take a look at him on our web site there is a short video of him under saddle www.strideawayacres.com. We just lost our old stallion Scotch N Soda on monday, so are very sad, but glad we have Cheroot to keep us busy. Thanks again, C.
