Tuscan Evening
All this mare does is win with a tenacious venom as she possesses the tactical speed so dangerous in any type of contest. Not too shabby for a mare imported to the USA as a maiden. The Santa Anita turf must be the worse for wear now near the rail as she stumbled a few times.

I had cat by the tale in this race.. i was feeling really really good until they hit the stretch then...bye bye birdie.
if she EVER was going to lose it was today, and to be honest, I don't think she was in top form today.
she's sprouted wings since the end of her 4YO year. not the same filly as she was whens he got her.
Santa anita is very very strong this year, rather some people like it or not. Loup Breton, Tuscan Evening and Burbon Bay are all legit Breeders Cup threats.
Bourbon bay might very well end up being the best turf stayer (american at least) I have ever seen in my lifetime.

Re: Tuscan Evening
hi wilf
If I recall correctly Tuscan Evening was G1 placed across the pond prior to being shipped to the USA.
I'd guess the decision to send her to Cal was the result of her connections believing that she'd be best suited for firm turf...and knowing that firm in SoCal is usually the rule rather than the exception.
Tuscan Evening's a very good one, and she's been running regularly and running very hard. Question is...will she be given a break, or will her connections push the envelope until they have no choice but to give her a break/stop?
Best to ya.

you know FOS I was wondering the same thing out loud yesterday. Millie Ball suggested she "get some air line points" by traveling around and taking on other people.. and this is what Jerry was hinting at doing running on Derby Day.. The race that Stiddum's Good Filly won last year.
Anyway I don't think that is the best course of action.
What I would do.. and no i'm not a trainer althought here is a holiday inn next door to me (seriously)
1. Rest her until the Shoemaker Mile
2. Cash Call Mile
3. Del Mar Mile Handicap
4. Oak Tree Mile Stakes
5. Breeders Cup Mile

hi bdw0617...hi wilf
Maybe Team Tuscan Evening'll use any one or a couple of the races you've mentioned above.
I'd go all in with the chips though that right now Hollendorfer has two races for certain circled on his calendar, and they're both later this year. 1/ The Breeders Cup Mile-G1 (on the grass), and 2/ the one mile on the turf Matriarch-G1 at Hollywood Park (in her own back yard), late fall.
For what it's worth...I'm beyond confident that Hollendorfer will keep Tuscan Evening eligible for plenty, and will decide when and where to go with her based on how's she's training, and what she has to say (if you will).
She's been running hard, and I'm confident Hollendorfer watches her closely and has his hand on the pulse of things.
Best to ya.

I see the Beverley D at Arlington way out on the horizon.

Not too shabby for a $1700 purchase at auction!
Actually, 4,500 guineas as a yearing (about $8,800 USD) and a whopping $650,000 USD last year! The dam had not thrown anything useful until her, so I can understand the price, but one thing I've noticed about the European auctions.... the paper never seems to match the price... and the price hardly matches the sebsequent performance....

I was actually referring to Bourbon Bay's auction price as a yearling, but Tuscan Evening was quite the deal as well!
