We R preggo!!

Postby Derby2004 » Sun Apr 18, 2010 1:51 pm

My mare sunshine miracle just had her 15 day ultrasound and is in foal to Hear No Evil. Only problem was she had twins and they were not close so the vet easily pinched one. I'm not too familiar with the process and success rates of pinching so if anyone has any insight as to the chances of a normal foal and so on, please enlighten me. But other than that all is well with her

Twins are fairly common in TBs. We've got a couple mares who almost always twin. The vet asks which to pinch; we usually say "the slow one!" but really, the answer is the smaller (if there is a smaller one) or the one least likely to affect the mare carrying the other to term (if the vet has an opinion on that). Other people have superstitions and will say "left" or "right" or something else. But if you don't have an opinion, the vet will generally do whatever makes the most sense.

One of our mares almost always twins. We pinch one, put her on Regumate for 45 days & she has virtually no problems carrying to term & delivering a healthy foal.

Some mares have NO complications when a twin is pinched & don't need the Regumate.

Congratulations on the successful pregnancy your mare will no doubt have!
