I have bought the TCF Nightlight mare back again ...

Postby TrueColours » Sat May 22, 2010 7:56 am

A dream come true for me ... :)

As most of you know, I was on the lookout for a black and *blingy* TB mare forever, but anything I found, very honestly fell short in what I wanted to include in my breeding program. And funnily enough, I kept comparing them to Nightlight - saying "she" didnt have as nice a neck, or as pretty a head, or as good movement, etc as Nightlight did. I guess I was mentally using Nightlight as the yardstick, and the measurement of what I wanted to buy ... :)

I made the decision last week to buy her back again and she will do some showing and will get bred. The Europeans follow the mandate of "Breeding the Best and Riding the Rest" and it has been very successful for them in their breeding programs and that is the model I will be following as well. She is, of course, the full sister to Faux Finish, Chai Latte, Remember My Name, Blonde In A Motel, etc ...

So - we will be selecting predominantly (or only) WB stallions for her to get bred to and will select simply the best stallions available for her, so that we can really showcase what the Guaranteed Gold offspring are capable of producing into the next generation as well ... :)

She is showing at the Devon Horse Show on June 4th and then I will be picking her up to bring her home again around the 7th or 8th. I can hardly wait to get her home again and to get new pictures of her as well ...

These are the only pictures I have of her from last year, but will be getting PLENTY more once she gets home!

Congratulations for keeping this lineage close to you.
Apropos the rare color of your equine, this other candidate is somehow similar in color and is coming from a cremello family.

Only warmbloods? You wouldn't consider a full TB at all?

I'm thinking the likes of A Fine Romance here, or other similarly well-proven sporthorse thoroughbreds. Maybe Salute the Truth for an eventer.

Or, if it weren't going to be so darned much Milkie (2 x 4 x 5 in the foal), Canadian Kid.

(Sorry, couldn't help myself!) 8)

I have ALWAYS loved Canadian Kid. He is one "coloured" stallion that deserved to keep the family jewels no matter what colour he was ...

I am not a Fine Romance fan at all. He hails from this area and I have seen too many of his foals and youngsters that I truly didnt like. Many people from outside of this area only see or hear about certain offspring that have been successful but of course would have no way of knowing about the others

Salute the Truth I love - but only *IF* I was breeding for an eventer (which Im not!).

There are so few other TB stallions that I truly love and with most of them being so far away, there is no way I'd haul her and her foal at side any distance to get bred to them.

Noble Houston is a stallion I have always loved and loved the offspring he has produced. He used to be in MI which was very close but now he's moved far far away and really wouldnt be do-able any longer

There are some TB race stallions that are to die for gorgeous, but with stud fees that are generally "up there" I cant justify going that route for a sport horse baby

I'd love some suggestions of TB stallions that I may not know about that are over 16hh, conformationally very correct, blingy with lots of chrome if possible, reasonable stud fee, and in ON, MI, NY and maybe OH. Any and all suggestions would be very much appreciated! :)

Congratulations! Can't wait to see new pictures

Repent now stands at stud in NY...bit of bling, nice size, and nice chance for a racehorse besides.

Stonesider is now at stud in NY...unproven, has bling and should have the ability to pass along a bit with Giants Causeway as his sire and Gilded Time as grandsire

I also think Disco Rico is gorgeous though not sure he suits your purpose.

Very hard to tell from photos whether or not any meet your requirements conformationally.

Thanks so much ak!!!! :)

Repent is drop dead gorgeous - I love the whole balanced image he portrays. If I had to fault him at all, he's a little light in behind but overall he is a stunning stallion!

I really like Stonesider as well - only possible knock against him is that he looks a tad long through the back but otherwise a beautiful stallion in every way

And Disco Rico I liked the least of the lot. Didnt like his shoulder at all and he just looked front end heavy and not balanced or athletic at all...

Great suggestions though! Thanks so much

This guy is REGALLY bred (full brother to Giant's Causeway), in NY, extremely attractive and throws SERIOUS bling to his foals. He was a pretty good racehorse in his own right, not that that's what you're going for, but it can't hurt.

Absolutely, I think "accphotography's" suggestion is superb!
Hmmm, I perceive most of us would really like to see her being bred
to a Thoroughbred sire, specially since we are all trying to cornerstone or reiterate these rare colors among the Thoroughbred breed. But we all respect the final decision.

For some reason, and not having seen either one in person, I think Salute the Truth would go better with Faux Finish than Nightlight. IMO Faux looks a bit more like dad the eventer and Nightlight more like mom.

If Ameri Valay is still standing (last I heard he was in PA) he's got Carnivalay bling and is a proven sire of jumps racehorses. http://www.nandivet.com/
