No flame suit needed clover, you are entitled to your opinion as I am mine.
His show/competition passport says, "Mirabeau". There are many horses with one name that is a registered name and another name that is used for showing/competition. He is Mirabeau to everyone who knows him so it is NOT going to change.
AND Correction... I just looked at Mirabeau's papers, because I wanted to know what was on them as I never really look at them. On his registration papers there is NO NAME at all. Yes, NO name. He was not named when he was registered. He is listed with RPSI as Mirabeau, which I did, and his showing/competition passport says Mirabeau. So there is no where that he is registered or listed with any initials on his name. That is proof that it was not talked about to me when I purchased him. Gwen did not bring it up to me until he was 5 years old and out showing on the jumper circuit at which point I WAS NOT going to change it.

There are a lot ot TB's in western canada that carry their breeder/farm initials...Bear Stables has "Bear" infront of almost everything, and there are a lot of PS horses running at Hastings. The initials are big in the arab world too from my experience.
I personally hate the practice of initialing the breeder myself, and would drop the initials if I bought a horse that way. Just my thing, not meant as disrespect I just find it a mouthful and really, how many farms worlwide have the same initials? If I like a horse enough to care where it came from, I'm going to ask who the sire is, and where it came from. That's all I need to find a stallion if I'm motivated enough and care.
Again, just my persoanl opinion.

A woman needs 2 animals in her life-the horse of her dreams, and a jackass to pay for it!
Blazing Colours - that does make a difference then. I don't care for initials either so I see exactly where you are coming from but I thought that was his registered name and as such should be kept intact. In light of further information regarding his name, yes I now understand fully why you do not use the intials. My apologies, it was none of my business anyway but you know what forums can be like, sometimes we just can't stop those itchy fingers from prattling away on the keyboard!

I don't see why you should have to use the initials. In the hunter world, people have a show name which is not always their registered name. They do it all the time. And that is how their horse is advertised. So the breeder gets absolutely no recognition.
Lovely horses btw

Congrats on lovely mare and foal x
Re the naming situation ... in the UK we now must register the same name as was originally put on their foal registration or first passport. It makes thinks a lot easier now lol ....you just hope the breeder chose a nice name lol
I personnally don't like the initials on TB's as I like how it's tradionally done but over here our ponies and natives breeds usually get registered with a 'prefix' . You have to register the prefix so it can only be used by you. My prefix for the ponies I breed is 'Joydens' and it's not the name of my stables but the wood I live next to,it can be anything that is personal and we don't add farm or stud after, which I think makes it sound too long.
Hey Gwen I wish you called Ambassador just GF and not vom Falkenhorst lol do you know how difficult it is to write in small space on an entry form lol

Truly I am sorry for that but the Knabstruppers are called with their full stud farm name on which they were bred, its like a Kennel name for dogs.
For the Warmbloods, Arabs and TBs I use the GF at the end of their names. Mirabeau was sold as Mirabeau GF and all Mascarpone foals are up on the Mascarpone offspring page with the GF if they were bred by me. At that time there was no possibility to put the names on the papers directly as Europe just started with their passport crazyness and it is just now recently possible to put them directly on the Arabs, TBs and the ZfDP papers. Horses of other associations are only registered with their names once they are presented for approval, be it mares or stallions. And since Mascarpone all horses bred by us carry the GF behind their names. Most people are proud of it.....

Fireslam - you have totally missed the point IMO as well
We already "get" that April isnt going to put the initials behind his name, so that is already a foregone conclusion
There is a whole line of ponies named "Farnley" something or other and "Carolina" something or other. Those lines come from well respected, well entrenched, well known and established lines
There is NOTHING to stop someone from buying a $50.00 pony from a meat auction and sticking a Farnley or Carolina name on it. There is no patent on those names, nor is there any patent on my TCF initials or Gwen's GF initials
But most people would realize that those initials mean something that is recognizable and respected on a global basis and are proud to have those initials associated with the animal they have purchased. For just the same reason as people specifically seek out Farnley or Carolina line ponies and then make it a POINT of letting everyone know it is from those lines by keeping that prefix forevermore attached to them
It is also the same reason tha people travelled from all over the world to buy the Hank Weiscamp bred and branded Quarter Horses because as soon as people saw that brand and that name, they KNEW they were buying a quality product that came from a well established, respected and well thought out breeding program that had lasted and flourished through the decades. Never in a million years would they try and HIDE the fact that it came from that program - they actually FLAUNTED it! And no competing breeder would think for a second that it made sense to try and disassociate themselves from Hank's program as that very fact gave THEIR breeding program more credibility and respect.
THAT is the reason, moreso from the buyers perspective, that it makes more sense to keep the GF designation rather than omitting it. If the purchaser passed the "Sales and Marketing 101" course anyhow ...
