Young stallion prospects?

Postby Derby Lyn » Fri Jul 02, 2010 5:20 pm

Any idea where to look to find a decent young (2-4yrs old) stallion prospect? I am not seeing much out there for sale that I am liking. And if it is nice it's priced way over my budget. I am just looking for a project that is sound, and if it doesn't seem like he will be a good stallion candidate then he would be gelded. Would like to stay under $2500. Is that asking for too much? Just want something with good conformation and atleast 15.3h. Thought there would be more out there, always seems like in the past there were a ton of them. Thanks!

Maybe a bit higher price than you were looking for ........

I'm assuming you mean a show horse stallion prospect?

Not as young as you want - Regal American, about 3/4 of the way down the page:

Ditto, Whiskey Park:

And here's Frisky Spider:

Another suggestion if you want an inexpensive yearling is to go to one of the yearling sales or mixed sales this year - many of the ones who go through the sale without a reserve can be had in your price range & some of the ones who do not get a bid in the ring can be had afterwards for your price range, or less.

[Edited to add Frisky Spider . . . ]

Thanks for the links. I am looking for something a little younger so I can bring them along and show them. I don't want an older breeding stallion. Prefer something that hasn't been bred yet. I love Frisky Spider, he is one of my favorites, but I don't think he will hold up for what I want. I was thinking about the sales, but I would prefer something atleast 2 years old so I can see how they have matured. Maybe what I am looking for is just not out there yet. I can wait, no hurry, and I will just keep checking the ads.
Thanks!

I remember seeing Frisky Spider free to a good home last year. Its a shame it wasn't his forever home. I always liked him, but didn't have room at the time.

That picture is of his sire, Yes It's True. He would cost more than $1500.

Sinatra-I asked for pics on that one and I am waiting for them to send them to me. Sounds like a nice colt and not that far from me.
Thanks!

have you seen this one? http://www.equine.com/horses-for-sale/h ... 91283.html

a son of Pleasant Colony, his half brother stood in NY and moved up his mares quite a bit. http://www.harasmontanaranch.com/files/goldtoken.pdf

Nice female family.

BUT....Outrageous expectations on that selling price though... he's a non-stakes horse for $8500. 17.1. Dark bay (NOT BLACK!!) and he's 11 years old. Probably not a match, eh?

actually quite a nice stallion family.... I see Local Talent and Sporting Life up close, and of course the half brother Gold Token. Add in Mark of Esteem a bit further back....

There is a nice 4 YO BLACK colt listed on the trainer listings at Finger Lakes:

http://www.fingerlakestap.org/

For you color folks, too....there are 4 chestnut sabino mares on the site right now too. Two on the trainer listings, and two for adoption.

I actually prefer the Regal Classic stallion on the Finger Lakes website.

http://fltrainerlist.proboards.com/inde ... hread=1253

Love Regal Classic, and his dam produced the fun-to-pronounce-and-sing DOREMIFASOLLATIDO. Immediate family of Top Corsage.

Not a great fan of the pics, but he looks to be in good flesh and well built.

Ohhh. I like him, too, springboro.

BTW, you remember Broadway Jester?? He has two mares confirmed in foal this spring. Are you still interested in him?? Both he and Concorde's Future are fertile...Concorde has 8 mares in foal.

They are going to be looking for homes again, but nothing "desperate".
