she (rachel) can gallop faster than they can run.
if borel has any sense which he does, he will put Rachel on the lead, and life at tend will never get by her.
i would bet miss whatever her name is before i bet life at ten. plus a malibu moon at 10"F is just going to have to beat me, i'm sorry. i don't count the del cap that was not a real race
the day life at ten sits off rachel, and pounces and rides by, the day i dont have a clue about horse racing
I had this dead on the money.
just did not expect persistently to be so damn persistent on winning lol

Rachel was supremely game. But that last furlong was too much.

Once she dualed Life at Ten into defeat, the graveyard of favorites did it's job, foe every action there is a reaction. Great job by Shug! I thought she was the horse to beat. It came back a very healthy $94 exacta.TJ
I've gotta say that Jerry Bailey had it right on HRTV when he noted that if Rachel & Life At Ten got into a dual, his pick was on Persistently. It was great for Personal Ensign's "family" to win this year, to be sure. But I felt bad for Rachel. Why is Asmussen not moving her forward by teaching her to hold back a bit??????
I'm not sure that RA is the second best older mare in the country right now.
They will have a hard time getting her ready for the BC now - today's race took a lot out of her. No way she goes in the Classic at a mile and a quarter against the boys. If she does not bounce back really well, this week, I would retire her.
Overall, its easy to second guess, but I have not been impressed by the way she was managed this year.

Hi Jolt,
Rachel Alexandra was completely spent with a 1/16 of a mile to go. She shortened stride terribly, either from the speed dual she was engaged in or she may just need a van to go 1 1/4. She really hasn't had a stellar campaign so far, yet this was her first GR I of the year and the first time she's gone 1 1/4 miles. She did defeat Life At Ten who was some 10 lengths further back, but that dual took it's toll on Rachel as well. Take nothing away from the winner who was trained to the minute by Shug. It will be interesting to see how her camp reacts to this. TJ
RA is at a point where, for this kind of top-of-the-breed animal, I think it gets difficult because she has been been beaten consistently, and she knows it, in this case despite an all out effort and grueling fractions.
This is when I begin to worry that another all out effort against - sadly - equal or better horses (this year) might break her heart, or worse. Especially tough on horses like her (and Ruffian) that are so competitive and tending to be in the thick of the whole race (unlike Zenyatta who always gets a breather.)
Granted - not a lot of horses can go a mile and a quarter under that kind of pressure, and it was only one horse that beat her, but I still wonder. I don't think she is 100% of the horse she was last year. 90% maybe.
