Galen retired a few years ago and worked still for Hollendorfer occasionally. How sad to think of him murdered.

There's a wild crime story going on in the Bay Area since last night. Few details have been released. There was a guy speeding in Pleasant Hill, the police tried to pull him over, he fled, and they finally cornered him in Richmond, which is where he lived. The police had to shoot him dead when he pulled a knife. There was a dead woman in his car, strangled and beaten. This guy killed another man who was dead in his apartment. The dead man's adult son is missing, and foul play is suspected. I guess the police went to a home in Richmond and found the two dead bodies of two missing Vallejo women who were last seen at the same casino Galen frequented. The husband of one of the women was there with the dead bodies and they arrested him. Somehow the cases from Richmond, Antioch, and Vallejo are related.

It's a ridiculous stretch, but somehow I'm wondering if this case was related to Galen's. He was also dead in his apartment for several days. He went to same casino. The police aren't giving any details, and I've seen no link in the media, but somehow it feels similar. There's dead bodies from Richmond to the Delta from this psycho. It's beyond comprehension.

And this is racing news because?
as far as speculation goes, it coul have been "collection day" from someone that wanted to be paid and Richmond was the prime location for collections.
Whatever the case, the guy was murdered. The end.

Sorry, people from Northern California would all know him well because he ran the receiving barn in the NorCal circuit for 30 years. It seemed like the racing thread was more appropriate than the general thread.

If you ever ran a horse in northern California, you'd know his voice. Galen had a really distinctive way of doing the call to the receiving barn:

"HORSES....in the 1st race....due....in the receiving barn in...5 minutes........5 minute call for race... number.....1." You could hear his voice clearly and if someone was talking during the first half, you could wait and still hear what he was saying. Ever since he retired, I've had trouble hearing the call.

If the moderator thinks this thread ought to be somewhere else, please move it.

What kind of snot nosed, insulting comment is that? You are now the authority on industry news? Jesus Christ...

Galen was a great guy. Wonderful sense of humor. I shared many a joke with Galen over the years. He was a Receiving Barn fixture in Northern California for decades. Whoever murdered him must have caught him by surprise or the scenario was totally unexpected for Galen, because he would have whooped his butt if he had a smell of foul play.. Rest in peace my friend.
