Any interest in a (crooked) black yrlg filly? (pics added)

Postby Hops » Wed Oct 06, 2010 10:46 am

We have a true black yearling filly available. Planning to put her down, but after looking at her, I thought that someone might be interested in taking her. She toes in considerably in front, so most likely cannot race. Black with a BIG blaze. We registered her as dark bay/brown, but I was looking at her this morning and she's most definitely black. The Jockey Club can change the papers to amend the color for a nominal fee.

2009 by Trail City out of Heat of the Moment (Unusual Heat)

Dam earned $156k, winning 8 times at 3 in California. This filly is built like a QH. Personable/easy to handle/up to date on everything.

Please post or send me a PM as soon as possible if you are interested or know anyone who might be. The horse is located in Washington state. Would ask $200 for her to avoid her going to slaughter.

Thanks!

An odd fact: old timers liked horses that toed in as they thought it got them out of the gate faster. Fwiw, we raced a filly who toed in quite a bit and it didn't impair either her soundness or her ability to win.

A friend of mine had a very very toed in gelding (also black tb) that she competed in eventing for quite a few years until she had to put him down due to other circumstances. He stayed very sound for her. She paid $5000 for him as a broke 5 year old, stood about 16h. I think he was overpriced at the time. His crooked legs never affected his performance, but a lot of people did look at him funny. Your filly could even be a trail horse.

May I ask why you were planning to put her down?

Thanks! I work for the owner, it isn't my horse. The local market has gone down the tubes even for perfect horses. The owners are reducing to just top racing prospects for next year. There just aren't enough homes for horses and the most responsible thing in some cases is to put the horse down if you can't keep it.

If I didn't have my own, I'd definitely take this one on as a project or future broodmare prospect.

Thank God the foal crops are down so much, then. I cannot fathom destroying a living creature with grace, intelligence, and usefulness in SOME capacity, when they are not sick or injured.
Then again, I have trouble destroying plants I'm pretty sure are dead anyway.
Glad you're trying to find her a new home.

Oh, me too! I "rescued" a Norfolk Island Pine from Craig's list - growing too big for its pot & the hallway in which it lived . . . but when the owner replied, she'd already put it outside (in below-freezing weather). I lugged the big ol' thing into my house & kept watering it (it was brown, but hadn't dropped its needles - maybe it was STILL alive . . .). A year later, it is STILL brown & STILL hasn't dropped its leaves (but just this week I finally admitted defeat & put it outside, beside the "annual" citronella plant that I've kept alive for the past 4 years).

Again, I digress. Hopefully, someone else will take this thread back on-point, for the sake of the filly.

She is located in Washington (the state.) We have not contacted any rescues (the local ones are all overfull with horses that are ready to ride.)

Pictures below, (taken this morning) and added to original post.

She doesn't look that bad...I've groomed worse on the track!

I think she's just beautiful with that big blaze and black coat. Even if she doesn't make the track, couldn't she be someone's riding horse? SO flashy.

My OTTB raced 77 times, retired sound, earned over $200,000. And he is off-set, pigeon toed, and a little back at the knee. I have been riding him 4 times a week. He's solid gold.

Man she is really cute. I had a gelding I needed to place and I called Joe asking if he could put him on his blog. He did and the gelding had a new home in less then a week.
