Blame HOY

I don't feel he beat her on the square- she was CLEARY running faster than him in the stretch
OH GOD!!! Here we go again. He is horse of the year...like it or not. Guess what...he was running faster than her before the stretch ...so what he was there at the wire and that's what matters. Why do Zenyatta fans want to make excuses like "she is undefeated" (circa 2009) so, Rachel has a better campaign, now is it really gonna be that she was running faster at the end of the race???
Horse of the Year is an award for the horse that had the BEST YEAR of racing. Unfortunately, Zenyatta had the 2nd best in 2009 and 2010. Deal with it.

Not sure I agree. His loss to Haynesfield was pretty convincing.
Deal with it.

Remember that Goldikova has to run against colts to rack up the money since in Europe the big purses go with the colts once they hit age 4 and beyond and she gets weight allowances for it [nothing wrong with that].
Goldy also is almost a pure miler [nothing wrong with that either] and a one surface horse [nothing wrong with that either].
In America, Zenyatta can run for big purses and stay within her sex and with the big colts refusing to go west perhaps, California should get the credit for ditching the dirt and stopping the battles of east against the west that were so fun to watch.
Zenyatta went east, lost by a head with both Blame and her well ahead of most of the field in a race that stated to all of us would be the toughest in a long, long time...Ha! Co-Champs

His 2010 results were the same as hers, but he beat her when they met. Case closed.
The case will be closed when the voters vote. The east coast bias may again prevail, but we'll see. I have a feeling its not going to be cut and dried. Uncle Mo might take some of his votes.

Hi Georgez from another George.
I love Goldikova because she has a huge GSV number and loves to win. But Goldy has raced only on turf and she has raced over a mile 3 times, getting trounced on two of those occasions, once by fillies and once by colts and her one win over a mile was a very nice one at a mile and an eighth.
There is a lot of money in Europe for fillies older than 3, but only against males and always receiving weight from them to compensate she is a mare. Now if she did the old Handicap thing and concede pounds to males in a race and still pounded them, I'd be right with you on this one.
I'm not arguing that she deserves horse of the year and blame doesn't. I simply believe that with an earlier stretch run, blame would have been another horse passed by Zenyatta. I'm not saying he isn't a good horse, I am simply so much more impressed with Zenyatta for what she can do. She ALMOST repeated what everyone said she couldn't do in the first place, and it's not because she ran out of steam or ability.

I don't think people should get too hung up on HOY it's kind of like winning a Grammy, it doesn't mean it was the best song necessarily. One thing for sure if there was a lifetime achievment award Z wins hands down. History will be kind to her. Anybody else wish the classic was a mile and a half? I think they would have hooked up like Rags and Curlin with Z grinding out the win.
Blame will be Champion older male because he had the best season amongst the older males. Zenyatta will be Champion older female because she had the best season amongst the older females. Horse of the Year however is not just about who had the best season, it is also about who brought the most positive attention to horse racing: inches of ink and minutes on air. Very few people watched the race because they were excited by the prospect of Blame winning the race, even though he was a very highly regarded horse. The media coverage was all Z, all the time, and although she didn't win she did deliver the thrilling show that the media hyped. Therefore Z will be Horse of the Year, if the voters want there to be any credibility to the awards.
