We've all seen the pictures of the good ol' days, when all there was was baseball and horse racin' - those HUGE crowds, thousands upon thousands of race fans crowded in the stands, at the rail, and in the infield. The largest crowd ever for the Belmont Stakes was 120,139 - that was back in 2004, Smarty Jones was running for the Triple Crown, he lost to Birdstone by a length. It was one of those Modern Days that was a throwback to one of those Classic Days - thousands upon thousands of race fans crowded in the stands and at the rail to watch the big race - having the grandest time.
I was there.
