Buckskin and White Thoroughbred...

Postby BlazingColours » Fri Jan 14, 2011 8:01 am

Many parts of the country have been covered in snow the past week. We had over 1.5 feet fall in a 24 hour period. So after we got all DUG out, yesterday was a gorgeous one and we decided to take a bunch of pictures...

Here are a few of my buckskin and white Thoroughbred stallion, *Simba Twist*...

Pretty colour obviously ... however the thing that struck me was how beautifully sculptured his head is. Very nice! :)

Thank you everyone... Thank you!

He is a homebred so I am really quite proud of him and how he is maturing.

The black spots on his knees do really stand out against the snow. He has them on his hocks too.

He is being started under saddle this winter so I will be posting more pictures as he matures and get someone on him! Anyone want to see him free jump? He will be doing that soon too...

Thanks again for all the wonderful comments :D

Can someone explain where these colors in TB's come from? Is this a genetic trait that gets passed or was there a horse way back who had some color?
Do they get tested for the homozygous gene like paints are tested?

It's both a genetic trait and there was a horse behind who had some color (who was the initial mutation of the gene causing these colors, pretty close in this boy's case, only 3rd gen).

No they are not tested for zygosity as this gene is not capable of being a viable homozygous.
