Broodmare Prospect Available

I have a nice broodmare prospect available privately. She is in Delaware currently. She has made $158,759 and is stakes placed. She has black type in the first and second dam, and the first first dam has ten foals and 9 winners. She was a precocious runner and is 16.3. She is priced to sell because the owner does not breed at all. If you are interested please PM me and I will email a pedigree page and price. How would anyone know if they are interested unless there is some better information given? Usually ads like this mean the horse is 1. overpriced, 2. someone trying to pre-sell something they don't own yet, 3. someone trying to get a commission.

Why make sarcastic comments about the ad? If you're not interested, no one is forcing you to make an offer. And even if the poster is attempting to make a commission, the last I checked, there was nothing illegal, or even unethical, about that. As a matter of course, most "horses for sale" ads that run in the Blood-Horse or TB Times don't include the name of the horse in question. It's a little bit of an antiquated practice in the internet age -- where most horses' sales prices and pedigrees are only a Google search away -- but again, I don't see the need for bashing the guy for trying to find a buyer for a mare who clearly has some decent credentials.

If you really want to sell anything you
A. tell people your goods for sale and
B. Let then know what its going to cost them.

Why people feel the need to hide what they are sellling or the price of it bemuses most people who have a logical brain.

Anyway if the poster russ2va wants to post his mares name and the price I am sure you two ladys little spat might just have generated a bit of extra interest in seeing what the mares about.

Because it is dumb. If you are going to give the pedigree and price by PM, anyway, why not eliminate 2 steps. As far as commissions, I have no problem with them as long as they are legally earned and reported.

I didn't leave a price on my mare on my ad and I didn't get this much stat.
This person is a new comer. If you wanted a price and name just PM the person. No need to get hostile on the poor person.

Settle down folks, this is a newcomer - cut Russ some slack. He quickly responded to my PM asking for name and price.

While my personal opinion is that listing a name and a price will generate more serious interest I do agree that there are reasons one might not want to readily put a name and price on the internet, from personal privacy,not wanting to possibly lower the value of the horse, or the horse might be listed in another marketplace for more $$. For example having seen her form this mare is a good racehorse and worth $5k AS a racehorse (if she is sound) but as a broodmare prospect she is not worth NEARLY that much. She might get claimed for $5k but if word were out they wanted significantly less online as a broodie the hype she generates as a runner would wane, guaranteed. Its all about marketing... or old fashioned horse trading.

I strongly agree with you. I used to come here to learn and find helpful information, but anymore the tone is so condescending, negative and almost elitist. Like with any internet forum, there are those that claim to know it all, have it all and done it all, but this industry needs newcomers and when they get treated like some do on here, I'd stay away too. Thank goodness the "real" industry experts do not act like that at the track(at least not at the track I'm at) or I would've quit long before now.

The mare has been sold. No commission was made on the deal, just helping a friend move a broodmare prospect out of a racing barn. As far not posting a name, it seemed to me if you are actually interested in buying a horse sending an email or PM shouldn't be to much trouble. I felt it made it easier to help decipher true interest. Thank you to the people who contacted me, and to those who were rational about the post.

as someone who routinely used to purchase horses online ( a lot) I never wanted to take extra steps to get readily available information. How many times did I send a PM only to find that the "well bred" horse was by a regional sire out of a mare with zero black type.

I don't think anyone was really snarky... so I don't see a negative tone at all to this thread.

To those who don't post complete information, let me state again that you really complicate the process for prospective buyers. If you're one of those people who says that it only takes one email - that's an extra step I'm no longer willing to take.

And I'm not being snarky at all... just real and upfront and honest.

Personally, I hate spam (still get some from inquires that were junk) and I hate dealing with most people when I can easily get the information myself with only a name. The issue of price will eventually have to come up unless someone is a really good salesman - then I don't want to deal with them either.

I'm just waiting for the day when we have auctions without foolish details like price. Just bid we will tell you how much after the hammer falls. Kind of like the Nancy Pelosi way of passing bills - pass it so we can see what’s in it.
