Post Fastest 4 furlongs fractional (or race)

Postby Jorge » Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:39 pm

Do you know the fastest time ever clicked during a 4 furlongs fractional or race, regardless of the final distance of the race?

It seems to me that the fastest registry was achieved as part of a longer race, rather than at a specific 4 furlongs event.

4 furlongs, more than any other distance seems like the most travelled fractional of all.

Who knows the record holder!!!

I don't know but the fastest I have ever seen is Commentator on Met Mile day the day I think Corinthian won the Met Mile, he went something like 43 flat or maybe even sub 43, it was way too fast, but just kept going, and ran everyone in the ground.

Bast, Thank so much for the valuable link but that is precisely the point
I am bringing up. I am sure, as well as many of our readers are, that the fastest 4 furlongs registry ever recorded is far faster than what the "World and American TB Records" shows.

In similar fashion, I am sure than the fastest 7-1/2 furlongs time ever recorded on dirt ought to be far better than what appears to be but that's another story and I prefer not to complicate matters on this thread.

There is a saying: "Let's not bring up "Old Uncle Hairy" into the conversation :P :P

What surprises me is that there is such a disparity between the "official" record and the faster fractional time. I would not expect that much difference.

Commentator never raced a half mile in under 44. The race on Met day was the Richmond Runner and he ran the half in 45.98, Corinthian ran his half in the Met in faster time, 45.70

In the topic titled “TAPIZAR FRACTIONALS”

http://www.pedigreequery.com/forum/view ... c&start=15 (page 2)

our collaborator “Reenci” informed us that when Lure won The Gotham Stakes (via a dead heat) he clicked the following fractionals:

(Cited from EQUIBASE)

2 furlongs in 22.25
4 furlongs in 43.97
6 furlongs in 1:08.25
1 mile in 1:35.63

Russellthemussell ran a :42 4/5 in a stakes at Emerald on a windy day, I think.

I've spent some time at Emerald Downs and understand the track can be pretty well juiced.

Interesting - we have a broodmare who was about 2/3 of a second off the 2f record (record: 20.71, her time: 21.40) at the same track (although years later), carrying 4 pounds more than the record-holder.

But her 4f that day was 44.88, so not part of the 4f discussion on this thread.

But Jorge, her name is Subtle Cue & while not a Racing forum topic, please note she carries the sabino gene, if the disconnected white on her lower lip and the white roan-y patches on her cheek & stifle are any indication.
