see i don't understand this. what is the point of running in this race. if you want to race a certain distance, why not just work the horse harder in the morning, this is a horrible allowance race that is not going to do anything towards helping this horse get ready for the first saturday in may. bad bad bad bad bad.

only thing is...he gets paid for this. ..instead of working hard in morning and getting nothing in return...everytime they step out there it could be there last time. :( ...the old saying.."we dont make money in the morning" comes to mind. on the flip side, from a competitive stand point your right a 1000%.. ..dont seem like he's going to get battle tested here.... and you like to see that along the way to the derby  ....but theres time for that next race.... zito has proven in past that he knows what he's doing with a 3yo....to be honest ..i never cared for him as a trainer...the man has proven me wrong time and again. ..and have changed my mind about him....in theory this race or exhibition..should open his lungs up so to speak at 1 1/8th miles...then get battle hardened in FD.

These horses need to learn how to race. I would use it as a schooling effort. And no, he doesn't need to win even, especially against older horses. Just go the distance and see how he handles it. Will tell them a lot more than a dozen workouts.

Zito's expertise as a trainer can be compared to a blind dog in a meat house. Any success he has is attributable to pure luck - nothing else.

Winning does more for the confidence and is primary in the developing of a racehorse. Running back destroys confidence. A primary role of the trainer is to pick races his horse can (and will) win. You can increase distance through conditioning. The only way you teach a horse to be a winner is by winning.

you can't convince me that he is going to get a single thing, out of a race when the 2nd choice is 30 to 1.

Just watched the race and Dialed In got beat by his older stablemate. He didn't seem to have his A game but first time around two turns and older horses it wasn't a bad effort. Stablemate ducked out at sixteenth pole yet still had enough to hold on..

Dialed In finished second. Does anyone have details?

Dialed In got a few taps but was mostly hand-ridden. Looked like they didn't want the colt all out.

Pass the salt bdw0617 for my crow...you know what i mean.. on another point the loss in the race against an older foe is not that bad...we will see if dialed in holds up and progress's.
