This one is full off strategy and intrigue - do they upset Twirling Candy?

ou know what, the more I think about this race, I don't like Twirling candy at ALL. Okay, let me rephrase that, of course he could win, but he hasn't done anything to be the overwhelming fav. he lost his only 9F race on the main track, now they are asking him to go 10F on the dirt. He is going to have to beat me.

Then I look at the baffert quartet, they are all the same horse to me lol. I could see game on dude winning it, he's the best of the bunch IMHO. While he lost the 12F Belmont I think 10F is right up his alley with what he wants to do.

I thought about Setsuko, hard, but I don't think he's a dirt horse. though PP was a great dirt horse, his get seem to prefer turf, as does setsuko.

I keep coming back to gladding. I think he will get 10F.

I can't get passed TC. He looks so dominant. I think he will win by many.

Julie Krone was on Halbridled, Donna might have been on the pony doing the post race interview though. You may be right however, aside from Anna, there have not been too many ladies riding in G1's on legit horses lately

Anna has not WON a grade 1 race. she has rode in a few, she rode in the breeders cup filly and mare turf on forever together, and she was in the wood memorial on a long shot last year. Rosemary was in the breeders cup marathon, but non won anything.

How? I have seen less interference in US races and horses getting demoted, what a strange decision by the stewards - well unless they backed the winning horse?

The first woman to win a GR I stakes race in America was Mary Russ (Tortora) at Hialeah in 1982. She won the Widener aboard Lord Darnley. TJ

I thought the same thing but after carefully watching the head on and pan, I think the stewards got it right. TC and Dude both came into each other just about equally. Dude seemed to be more affected by the bump as his rear end turned sideways then sort of slingshot back into TC who then gave Setsuko a good shot. It was easy initially to think that Dude caused the impact but it was actually both of them hitting each other equally then Dude over correcting from the impact with the hit into TC.

hi guys

The Santa Anita Handicap yesterday concluded with what some may descibe as a perplexing, if not strange, stewards' decision.

Some might suggest that it was even more perplexing and strange than the stewards' decision (some months ago) to leave Twirling Candy up (as the winner) after he drifted out/bolted 8 or 10 or so wide coming out of the first turn, and taking out/impeding whoever was in his uncontrolled path. The way it appeared to some that day, many who voiced their concern/displeasure with the call, TC and trainer John Sadler were awarded (if you will) a gift by the stewards. I sense it's safe to say that many (many many) remember what they saw (that day), and still believe Twirling Candy should have been taken down.

As for yesterday, the stewards again made what seemed to some (if not many) to be another perplexing, if not strange, decision. For what it's worth, I have my doubts that the decision to leave Game On Dude up was unanimous.

I've no doubt that thousands upon thousands of viewers would like to know specifically how/why the stewards concluded as they did. The commentators and pundits can speculate 'til the cows come home, but they don't speak for the stewards.

Gotta chuckle though...after all, Sadler and his trainee Twirling Candy arguably got away with one some months ago...this time though, they were on the losing end of what many perceived as a perplexng/strange call by the stewards.

Respectfully

Here's the race replay, a very bad call by the stewards. Guess they didn't want to take the top two finisher's down. TJ

I don't want to come off as mr. redboarder but I actually landed on the winner a few mintues before post. With that said, there is no doubt the winner should have came down.

Had the trainer been AC Avila and the jock been Omar Berrio, instead of bob baffert and the jockey chantel, that would not have taken 3 mintues to DQ.

Hi FOS,
It was a 2-1 decision to let the result stand. Steward Kim Sawyer voted to change the order of finish, he is quoted in this article. TJ

Several years ago when Chantal was still married and riding the Ontario circuit of Woodbine and Fort Erie she beat my horse a head when aboard a horse of her husband Mike Wright Jnr. I was disappointed as my guy was an old class gelding and never seemed to lose a photo finish or so it seemed. Quickly the inquiry sign was flashing as my rider claimed foul and the head on film showed that her horse had turned sideways and smashed my guy near the finish line , moving him over two body widths from his true line. The stewards left the result as is ,I was astounded and told Wright not to spend the money just yet. I appealed to the tribunal for the first time in my career and had the decision overturned 6 weeks later. It was funny as in the meantime the horse won the same race ,NW 1 YR and so effectively the horse Malcoha, won it twice that year. I wonder if the decision was so contentious in the S A Hcap will the beaten connections lodge an appeal??
