Adequan vs Chodorprotec

Postby wgc517 » Thu Mar 10, 2011 1:09 pm

Does anyone have experience using Chodorprotec? My horse just had some bone chips removed and we are going to put him on Adequan but it is on back order. Chodorprotec is suppose to be a generic version of Adequan but when I did a little online research, there seems to be a few people out there that does not feel they get the same response. The price difference is $300 vs $50. Can anyone shed some light on either product.

thanks

There is no generic adequan. I would recommend you go with the real thing. If that is out of your budget try pentosan.

Here's an interesting thread on Adequan vs Legend..
http://community.livejournal.com/equest ... 71676.html

"Adequan (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan or PSGAG) is used in veterinary medicine to treat non-infectious degenerative joint disease (DJD) in horses. According to its manufacturer, Adequan is the only disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug on the market that is approved by the FDA"..

A buddy who is a race trainer has tried them ALL, Legend, Adequan, etc., and swears by this stuff
http://beta.allivet.com/p-439-polyglycan.aspx
which is, in effect, synovial fluid.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

For what it's worth I love Pentosan. I have a slab fractured filly (right knee) and this stuff or her pain threshold is awesome. Also scares me less personally than Adequan, not that it's scary I just like the mechanics of Pentosan better.

Laurie have you used Pen much and what do you think?
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

Everything I run gets polyglycan 2 days out. It's great, pretty much a Legend/adequan combo. Lubes them up for the race

I put my old man on pentosan a couple of times per year. I haven't used it on any of the race horses yet. It helps my old guy who has terrible hocks but is still going strong at 23.
