So would you say Pomeroy and War front after 1 crop of three year olds deserve to get mentioned in the same breath as Danzig or Mr Prospector?

I wouldn't.

Thats was my point 1 crop of three year olds and we have the second coming of greatness according to some.

Your post on Danzig reflects what my sarcasm was trying to highlight, the sad part as you say was that you didn't get it, that was truly sad.

So, I looked at the original post again...and all I can see there is that Pomeroy has an undefeated (at the moment) G2 son, a G2 daughter, a multiple stakes-winner and a $625,000 2 year old bought by Jess Jackson.

This information was followed by FOS' quote

I gotta believe Pomeroy is worthy some VERY serious attention...and recognition.

So, there's nothing in the original post about Pomeroy being the second coming of Danzig or Northern Dancer or even Pegasus. ALL it said was that Pomeroy was doing a really nice job at stud so far. I looked him up and saw a stud fee of 5k (don't know what he started out at, but it probably wasn't too much) so I can't understand why the sniping started. If I had a mare who looked like a good match for Pomeroy, why wouldn't I give him serious attention? He's throwing some quite nice racehorses and he's reasonably priced.

Heck, Dublino, even you said there was no doubt he was likable.

applause for pfrsue--the voice of reason AND a tutor in reading comprehension!
BEFORE this thread started, I looked at Pomeroy's progeny stats and was way impressed. He could be a remarkable stallion, or do a Birdstone and get a little quiet after a big successful crop. Time will tell.

Tick tock.

Have a look at this Blogging regarding Danzig.
Roger Lyons and Frank Mitchell seem to think Danzig is making a comeback through these G2 winners.

Did Danzig ever really leave us?

I have been high on this horse for a while. His offspring so far are very versatile. Going short, going long, ono dirt and synthetics. My best two girls, Star Nurse and Tasha Yar are going to him in a week. He adds bone and size to his babies. For a stud under 10k, he is a great value. The best part is, the best is yet to come. His foals have been later maturing than say War Fronts. So logic suggests its going to be a good year for Pomeroy

Bravo for your logic. Quite a nice 4th of July weekend for Pomeroy, don't ya think?

July 2nd (Saturday) - 2-year-old colt Mel Beach (by Pomeroy) broke his maiden in the $100,000 Frank Gomez Memorial; down the stretch he quickly straightened away and edged clear (per DRF) to win by 1 3/4 lengths...at Calder.

July 3rd (Sunday) - 3-year-old colt Flashpoint (by Pomeroy) wins the $150,000 Jersey Shore-G3; he took charge in upper stretch and drew away under urging (per DRF) to win by 7 lengths in 1:08 3/5 (6 furlongs)...at Monmouth.

July 3rd (Sunday) - 2-year-old colt Noifswhatsorbuts (by Pomeroy) MSW winner ($45,200 purse) at PARX...eagerly drew away driving (per DRF) to win by 5 1/4 lengths.

July 4th (Monday) - 3-year-old filly Pomeroy's Pistol (by Pomeroy) finishes a strong 2nd by 1/2 length in the Prioress-G1 at Belmont; after being put to a prolonged drive (per DRF) she came home with good courage (per DRF).

You shared that a couple of months ago...I hope your mares cooperated 8) .

Would you be surprised if Pomeroy heads up the road to the bluegrass?

Best to ya.

Hi FOS. It was a great weekend for Pomeroy. Wouldve been better if Pomeroys Pistol wouldve captured that G1. But she was driving and was close at the wire. If she shows up at the furlong longer Test Stakes next month, they better watch out. She is more of a 7-8 furlong filly. But Flashpoint quieted some of his doubters and now we get to cross fingers that Mo, the Factor and Flshpoint collide in the Kings Bishop Aug 27th in what could be billed as the most exciting race of the year, for me at least. Mel Beach has always been super impressive. In his 3 previous starts he finished 2nd every time, but was right there or got nipped at the wire. He ran greenly in every one of them though. He showed maturity in the Gomez and I look for him to be a helluva sprinter in his 3yo year. Noifswhatsorbuts ran a good race also. He has a full brother that is 3 that just won a stakes U R Burnin Daylite. Being pretty close linebred to Believe It, I dont see him getting over a mile either. Wouldve been even better if Whinston wouldve won his maiden.

His coming two year old crop is about half what his first crop was. So Im expecting him to imitate Congrats, being that his runners numbers will drop next year. It will set up for the breeders who get in to his book in 2013 or 2014. He bred over 120 mares this year. So when his foals of 2012 hit the track in 2014, his fee will bounce back up.

Ive spoken to Declan Doyle quite a few times. After Flashpoint won the Hutcheson, the talks had begun about moving him to Ky. But the owner is a big Florida guy, and it wouldnt hurt him if he stayed. As things are right now, I think he will stay, but will be back to 10k next year. If he gets a G1, he will be in Ky. The fee increase is a definite either which way though.

My mare Star Nurse, whom is the half sister to War Fronts dam, is 60 days in foal to Pomeroy and doing great. Tasha Yar was kept open due to an infection, but she will visit him next season hopefully, along with my Henny hughes half sister, Our Donna.

hi Derby2004

Derby2004 wrote:Hi FOS. It was a great weekend for Pomeroy.

Yes it was.

If Pomeroy's Pistol is well managed (and of course is healthy and sound), the best may be yet to come.

That would set up to be a helluva horserace...WOW.

Both The Factor and Flashpoint are EXTREEEEEEEEEMELY fast horses, and yes, Mo (gotta respect him) earned an eclipse...but I don't get a sense Mo has their kind of speed.

Derby2004 wrote: ... ...(Mel Beach) showed maturity in the Gomez and I look for him to be a helluva sprinter in his 3yo year.

Is he Florida Stallion Stakes eligible? Is there a plan in place for his 2-year-old campaign?

Derby2004 wrote:Noifswhatsorbuts ran a good race also.

I don't know the quality of company Noifswhatsorbuts faced, but the official DRF chart included language describing his effort as follows: ... eagerly drew away driving. Sounds like a colt with potential.

Impressive so far...it'll be interesting to see how things unfold for both Noifswhatsorbuts and Whinston.

I believe Pomeroy has 6 stakes winners thus far, including 2 G2 winners. Congrats has 2 G1 winners, but how many SWs? Two fine young sires with 2nd crop 3-year-olds of 2011; likely it'll be an interesting year for both.

As for looks...Pomeroy is hands down a knockout (to my way of thinking). As for Congrats' looks...what word would you use to describe him?

How much Pomeroy's stud fee will increase, and where he'll stand in 2012 is very likely yet to be determined...but I sense you hit a bull's-eye when you stated the fee increase is a definite.

Very exciting...a half sister to the dam of War Front, in foal to Pomeroy who (you're probably aware) won the G1-Forego (at Saratoga) over War Front. Clearly you made an exciting choice, that could produce a scintillating result.

Lots to look forward to  8) :D .

Best to ya :D .

yes I was aware that Pomeroy defeated War Front in the Forego. Call me a man of irony. Or it may might have been a breeding of fate. Jay Em Ess Stables has her 2yo Malibu Moon colt, his name is Stars and Moons. He just had his first recorded workout. We are all excited about the potential of the resulting foal.

I found out some info on Positive Response also. According to his trainer, he is done for the year. He ran 5 stakes in 4 months and was just out of gas. So he is turned out and will return next year.

Repole said the Kings Bishop is Mo's target, of course they are being guided by his health and how he comes along. Baffert also said the same thing about The Factor. But if we are lucky enough to see this race with all 3 in it, it will be an instant classic.

Pomeroys Pistol will be a force in the Test, if she goes. I dont see any reason why she shouldnt go, giving her closing effort in the Prioress. Pomeroy will have a G1 winner in August, whether it be Flashpoint or Pomeroys Pistol.

Im kind of torn where I would like Pomeroy to end up next year. If hes in Florida his fee should be manageable. But in Ky, I have a feeling he will be more, but more commercial. Nonetheless, his fee will be more than 5k next year. After the Hutucheson, all his contracts were 5k and no less. Fortunately my mare was booked.

JC Bloodstock, I think the Danzig comment was sarcastic. I certainly hope it was. :)
