The Blue Grass Stakes

Postby Bast » Tue Apr 12, 2011 10:35 pm

This was once a major prep, especially when it was run two Thursdays prior to the Kentucky Derby.

It's still a major prep although I think there is a bit of a bias against running on synthetic as a final prep.

Thanks for these. 8)

Joe's Blazing Aaron is missing. He's interesting--he won at 1 1/8 miles the last time out, winning on the turf at Gulfstream in 1:47.85, with fractions:

:24.06, :49.22, 1:13.48, 1:36.55--the last eighth in :11.30

I suspect that while picking the winner of this less than wonderful Blue Grass isn't easy--possibly an even greater challenge might be to pick the last horse to finish... 8)

Brilliant Speed wins. Santiva 9th. 1:50.92. First part of the race was soporific, but the last eighth was run in :12.23.

Pletcher's entries finished 7th, 11th, & 12th (last). Just because your horses are 1/4 of the field doesn't mean they belong.

Well, if I read the splits right, Brilliant Speed kicked home his last 3/8 in about 34-3/5. Granted, he about trotted his first six furlongs since he was some eight lengths off a slow pace, but that's still a sharp finishing kick.
