Very good to know they tried to rate him for the distance. It's better to factually acknowledge his limitations while trying to run off the pace than to unresolve this question mark. Now back to the drawing board and resettle startegies:
Plan A --- Try to follow Holy Bull's sophomore schedule and go against older horses for the rest of the season; either at a mile or 7 furlongs.
Plan B --- Discard the Triple Crown and try one more time to explore rating him up to 9 furlongs against 3-year-olds and older horses.

WHAT DID MIKE B'S DAD DO FOR RACING IN KENTUCKY?Terrapin Flyer wrote:Battaglia is the worst linemaker in the world. His Derby line is always terrible, but they have to keep him around because of what his dad did for KY racing. I have nightmares that start with FOR THE LEAD

Terrapin-
Worst line maker is GOOD for people that are paying attention to other things besides odds. When I get a nice price on a great horse because he made a no chance horse 3-1, I'm thinking "Thanks Mike!"
Know what I'm saying?
"Some rise, some fall, some climb..."
I am under the impression that backing up horses the mass is behind them is like some sort of fashion. Analyst don't want to look foolish for not backing the newest racing star. They also want to look cool. But frankly speaking The Factor should not be included among the Derby Dozen.
I would really like to be wrong on this one but unless The Factor is the new Secretariat, I think that most probably he has no realistic chance to win the Kentucky Derby. To me, he seems to me like a new 21st century version of the super sprinter, Zip Pocket, nothing else unless he is a new racing paradigm like Secretariat. But in his last race (Arkansas Derby) he didn't hint he has the potential to behave like one.
