I heard from a friend @ Fair Hill that Toby is doing well - didn't ask if he had worked because I was unaware of his "missing" worktab. Spoke with Graham Motion briefly last weekend and he said Toby was doing better than he (Graham) was! Graham says he can go to sleep, but then he wakes up worrying about it all.
Animal Kingdom is not doing as well.
Going to Churchill in the AM to watch the circus! (Media, hoopla, etc as well as Derby horses training).
Hi Hoss,
Thanks for the update.....after looking over his form, he seems to have a light worktab in general. His final prep for the Wood was two weeks prior to the race and he only has 4 published works showing since and including Jan.31st. It's possible Graham uses a lot of two minute licks in his training schedule to keep him in shape. Which would make sense after Motion mentioned how knocked out Toby was after the Wood.....enjoy the circus:>)TJ

No doubt, have a grand time, wish I was there! (I'm way jealous!)
Keep us posted on Toby's Corner I'd like to try and find out as TJ mentioned what he is doing in the mornings . . . and thanks!

Yesterday was a beautiful day here, probably more appreciated as the month of April has been the wettest month on record in Lexington - not just the wettest April but the wettest month ever!
I was surprised there were not any more people on the backside at Churchill watching, still a good crowd but not the 500 or so that will be there every morning from Tuesday forward. I love the new format where the track is closed to all horses but Oaks & Derby entries for 30 minutes after the break. You can see almost all the Derby & Oaks horses in a 30 minute window.
Although I have never thought he could go 1 1/4 miles, Uncle Mo is an impressive individual - coat is in great condition, he is carrying great weight and he moves beautifully. Maybe he could get a piece of it...
Shackleford is heavily muscled and looks like a sprinter - his work suggests he will be one of the pacesetters - is not built like a horse that wants 2 turns.
Mucho Macho Man - OK I have been on his bandwagon for a while, but he looked the part yesterday. A big scopy horse that is still maturing, I found him a bit reminiscent of Real Quiet. Big stride, swings along well, feels good and wants to do more than they let him.
Animal Kingdom looked strong, and his time was impressive - I still have my doubts.
Brilliant Speed looked like a bear to gallop - head cocked sideways the whole time. He looks turfy in his action, lot of knees. Looked also like he would be hard to rate, although he did rate in the Bluegrass.
The Factor took advantage of his Derby saddlecloth to gallop during the alloted 30 minutes - looks like a sprinter/miler - medium sized without scope, a bit bunchy.
Midnight Interlude - I did not get as good a look as I would have liked, this horse worries me. I want to disqualify him based on his turf sire, but the SA Derby was dirt and impressive. He is scopy but I couldn't really see his action.
It is great fun to see all the horses go, but unfortunate that all the infield structures prevent you from seeing them go down the stretch - would be ideal if CD placed a big screen facing the backside and showed the works live. Pipedream, as CD has no financial reason for such, but would be nice. If memory serves, CD will have an announcer during this 30 minute period Tuesday forward - "now on the track is Soldat" etc.
And back to central KY 2011 - the rain started again at 4 AM and has just let up at 8:30 AM - still overcast and more rain expected.

Hi Hoss,
Thanks for the your insight and your evaluations of what you see. Midnight Interlude didn't race at 2, that has always been a big knock against winning the Derby....but Baffert has a way of coming out on top:>).....Did you get to see Mo and Stay Thirsty this morning? TJ

Hi TJ
I did not make it to CD this AM - when I heard the rain @ 4AM I decided to sleep in
The extended weather forecast shows Tuesday to be dry, so probably will go back Tuesday.
I forgot to mention Stay Thirsty's appearance Saturday, possibly because I did not get the best look at him. From what I saw, he is a good-looking horse in good condition, and has the pedigree to get the distance...must admit I was distracted by Uncle Mo, whose action and presence kind of makes him a horse one cannot ignore. Still, I doubt Mo at a 1 1/4 miles.
Looking forward to watching "The Works" on TVG - when does it air?

Hi Hoss,
I listed the works for this AM at "CD Derby Preps"....no video yet, but I think it will be posted soon. Stay Thirsty was purchased with the Derby in mind, then Mo went and took the limelight. Should really be a good Derby this year, quite a few are going into the race in good order. Here's the article when "The Works" air.....at first I thought we were talking about the car wash:>) TJ
