Why must they BE slaughtered? Why cannot they be given a peaceful, painless, calm end?

Because sickos want to eat them, that's why. This is why there needs to be a general law, and yes, before anyone says it, there are going to be lawbreakers, but nail their asses if they are caught, for these companion animals to be given peace and treated respectfully.

For cripes sake, they gave Bin Laden a 45 min. "funeral" and look what the hell he did. These horses did nothing wrong, except not run or win fast enough. Ridiculous.

And, yes, all breeds are at fault, we on this forum talk about the TB's because that's what it's about. I hear the QH's are even worse. What the hell do they need so many QH's for? Not to mention that those horses can be AI and not live cover so they just line the mares up and go to town with a turkey baster.

Karen, I could have sworn I saw on TV a show, like on the Nat. Geographic channel(?) that they rounded up the horses and gave the mares something to prevent them from coming into heat. Kind of a birth control??? Did you hear something about that?

There needs to be a general all around control of ALL horses being bred. It's not going to stop, but if there were more regulation of who gets bred to who, it may help, I don't know. I do know there are breedings taking place out there that are F's in the nicking, if you want to go by that, and other breedings of horses that have done nothing on the track to another that has done nothing on the track. And of course, we have the backyard breeders who think it would be "cool" to have the mare have a baby.

In any and all cases, there certainly needs to be further investigation and regulations regarding this issue.
We will NEVER see another Ruffian......

The Blm here is starting out a new preventative drug for the wildhorses, but they won't give it to other breeds to use.
The problem that comes with this is what the side effects are. I would post the article but it was in the Wed paper here.
I'm trying to look it up right now.
And it's nice because we have Madelyn Pickens really really helping by taking in hundreds of mustangs. God Bless her. But the problem that she had was our county commisioners wouldn't let her.
She WAS NOT allowed to take them all. She was not allowed to take any at one point this year, which is wrong. She should be able to take and house what ever number of horses that she wants. She can afford it.

well then its a different situation with the QH mare you mentioned.. Did someone steal her uterus to eat it or just to be malicious? I still don't see your point jumping-in to post that you posted an article like this months ago. This is a problem older than time.
