true black? I don't see any brown around flanks or muzzle.

If he's dark bay, he's the darkest one I've ever seen.

Actually the rump shading right alongside the tail (unless it's a trick of the light?) reminds me of this guy:

Donauschimmer was obviously dark bay, but...the picture was taken in the late spring (I was there) and that shading by the tail is similar.

Just a thought. I'm probably wrong. :)

I noticed the rump shading too...but thought maybe it was sun bleaching.

I thought about that too, Toccet02, but then if it was taken recently...there hasn't been much time for sun bleaching. :)

Looks like a sun-burned liverish black horse. I think the key factor to observe is the area around the nostrils and nuzzle --- all black!
