Thoroughbred breeders certainly recognize the existence of 'preponent' sires and their ability to sometimes not only stamp their get but - in rare cases - to have such a dominant influence via their sire sons and even sire grandsons so as to have profound influence upon generations of the breed. Most recently and in N. America I'm thinking of Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector in this regard. Certainly there have been others that came beforehand which are recognized by breeders.
My question though is this: are there also sirelines recognized as being multi-generational sirelines not so much for their son's accomplishments/contributions to the breed but rather for their daughters' - and granddaughters' - influence?
In other words can certain sirelines known for their contribution (persistent through at least 2 gens of female offspring) i.e. via not only daughters but granddaughters and perhaps even great-granddaughters be identified? I'm talking about an influence via the sireline - not via the influence of female family strength, "Blue Hen" or 'Reines de courses" mares - although I certainly believe in the power of the female family as a platform of strengths/traits from which to breed - hopefully - better stock. I know the 'large heart' or "X-Factor" theorists would say 'yes and it is via this contribution of the 'large heart genetic predisposition' locus on the sire's contributed "X" chromosome when it combines with the large heart genetic predisposition on the mare's contributed "X" chromosome BUT that would not lead to a large hearted sire (think Secretariat) being the sire of sons known for also contributing to their daughters - just the opposite. What of the Sire Known Fact? I'm told that his influence is even seen in his granddaughers, i.e. female descendants twice removed from him in the pedigree. I've heard Mr. P suggested as such an emerging preponent broodmare sire but am not sure I'd say his influence continues beyond his daughters, but perhaps we're not far enough down the timeline to test Mr. P in this regard just yet. What about the Ribot sireline - it appears to be presistent in the breed albeit today not represented by many active and/or top ranked sires - is that persistence within the breed a recognition of the sireline's contribution as a broodmare influence upon the breed?

I think William the Third falls into that category of influential broodmare sires. Check out the impact his daughters, and their descendants, have had on the breed.

Broodmare sires
Hallo,
Habitat was regarded for many years as Broodmare Sire In Europe.
Arazi seems to be a promising "broodmare Sire".
regards, Bettina

Fappiano has several sons whose daughters have done very well, including Defensive Play, Quiet American. Cahill Road is ranked 15th now on the Ky bred BSire list by index, despite very limited opportunity. These are way outperforming their comparables I believe.

In part, that's due to the Coolmore numbers game. Woodman also has over 3700 foals out of these mares. In contrast, Deputy Minister has almost 1100 fewer foals as a broodmare sire, almost 20 more SWs and a significantly higher AEI. He also has sired really firstrate broodmare sires like Dehere, Salt Lake and French Deputy as well.

Oh by the way, with Shackleford's win in the Preakness, Unbridled is now the #1 broodmare sire in Ky.
We got a live one here.
