Any significance to these spots for color breeders? I have a dark bay two year old Kitten's Joy filly who has no chrome to speak of but has a lot of these ermine spots.
If they do signify something, Kitten's Joy progeny may be something you guys should look at closely. Lord knows you see enough of them with high chrome. Yet, I have one with no chrome but have these spots.

Re: Ermine Markings
If the horse has no white they cannot have ermine or distal spots. Ermine or distals spots are dark spots within white. No white no ermine or distal spots. Do you mean bend or spots?Zahrah wrote:Any significance to these spots for color breeders? Having minimal white and tons of ermines/distals is showing that hse has some sort of white suppressing going on.Zahrah wrote: I just meant she has minimal white... nothing that would make you think she'd have any supressed color/white genes.

I agree about the mare passing along the suppression.
If you look at the photo of Northern Station on her pedigree page, http://www.pedigreequery.com/northern+station she shows ermine spots on her right hind (her granddam is the above filly's dam).
Polonius, who is half to the filly above, also shows ermine spots on his right hind (click on the thumbnail to see a larger image)
