This is an article from 3 months ago, but apparently Berkeley and the city planners are moving forward on it, and GG sems to be back in the forefront.

Engineering firms have been hired, the buzz is it's GG.
It seems like they keep everything hushed up, then when it's too late, out comes the info.

Here is what they want to do: http://elcerrito.patch.com/articles/gol ... ls-say-2#c

YEAh, I have a voice to Vision my self. I use my voice to say hell no to losing GGF and my visions is to run my horse there.
First its Bay Meadows, tore down never touched, and now this. According to the article GGF is contributing alot to Albany so why mess with it?

Can't these people leave well enough alone.

Oh by the way, isn't there supposed to be a thoroughbred trainers and owners assoc. or something like that , that can get in the meetings and say no?

Playing with my GGF golf buddies yesterday they; already closed a space in the clubhouse that used to be a bettors resource room for the Berkeley lab. There is a possible build on the North lot also but nothing is etched in stone and do not believe this will cause racing to close in the near or middle term future.

Good. I was hoping one of you GGFers would weigh in on the issue. Keep your ears open!

They (the nebulous "they") have started in motion all the preliminaries which I hope does not mean bringing in the bulldozer. I also assumed there was room for both racing and Berkeley, but stranger things have happened.

Doc, what I am hearing is the desire to create additional revenue with the use of available space on the property. GGF is a big piece of property. The north lot is completely under utilized now that the big crowds are gone and never fill it up..

I remember walking thru that parking lot as a kid in the 1970. The walk seemed like eternity.

I was there on Belmont Day and there weren't many people there even though it was a Mystery Mutuel Voucher day. The next day it was $1 Sunday and the place was really full for lately, abut 8,000, with a lot of young people. If only Magna would pull its head out of its ass, they'd have a lot more people there every day.

They developed the south parking lot into soccer fields, and now the public thinks they have a right to the whole shore. They really enjoy walking around and so close to Berkeley, they'll be a heckuva fight to try to make that into office buildings or commercial. Not to mention that San Mateo whines at every opportunity about the $800,000 annual in lost tax revenue since Bay Meadows was razed. Of course, there's no accounting for how stupid Magna can be.
