She won G1 Prix Rothschild (fillies & mares) 4 times in a row 2008 - 2011...the 2010 European Cartier's top title holder failed to win in
the most recent run of the G1 Prix Du Jacques Le Marois...beaten 1 length by Immortal Verse in a field of 12. Goldkova also lost this
race last year to Makfi (2&3/4 lengths)..but few still remember she romped home in the 2009 edition at race record time of 1:33.50,
beating the nearest finisher by 6 lengths.
Will she follow up with the 4th win in Breeders Cup Mile this November ? Raced 4 times this year..all G1...with 2 1st and 2 2nd.
Wonder mare...won G1 races of all conditions : firm, good, good to soft, soft and v soft. She ran 2nd in the only heavy going (listed) in April
2008.

Re: Goldikova
hi wangkw
Likely she'll be odds-on to win it; and, she just may deliver a brilliant scorcher and make it look easy...I hope she does
.
Food for thought...none of us knows the toll, if any, her many many brilliant performances may have taken on her. Even if she shows up in great form...the weather/condition of the turf (as you referenced), or whatever, may or may not play in her favor.
If there's a torrential soaker and the course is soft or maybe worse...leaning toward or actually heavy...Goldikova may find it difficult to deliver the kind of performance/punch necessary to win.
Course conditions aside...whose to say another star, or rising star, won't lay claim to greatness at the expense of Goldikova and the others in the BC race.
Maybe the torch will be passed to another, maybe Goldikova will deliver a performance for the ages; whatever the case...Goldikova is absolutely, positively GREAT
.
One thing's for sure...I hope she's healthy and sound right now, and will be healthy and sound after BC day.
Respectfully

hi again wangkw
There was a report today (8/16/2011) at brisnet.com about Goldikova, which included numerous quotes credited to the great racemare's trainer (and former top French jockey) Freddie Head.
Freddie Head was quoted re the great Goldikova, and seemed to raise some questions (if not concerns/doubts) about the current state of affairs re the super mare, and racing options in consideration.
Trainer Freddie Head was quoted as saying...
... "We were trying to ride her slightly differently and, with a bit of luck, she might have won it. But she was beaten by a very good filly, and there's not much you can say." The question I might ask is ... why was a decision made to try and ride her slightly differently, and what exactly was the slight difference?
... "She's six now and maybe she's losing some of her freshness." That's fair enough, but clearly Trainer Head has raised a concern.
... "If everything goes well, she could go for the Prix du Moulin, and then we'll see." "There is also the Prix de la Foret -- I don't know yet what to do." Clearly trainer Head acknowledged he doesn't yet know what to do, and didn't mention the 2011 Breeders' Cup. The report mentioned the Breeders’ Cup, but no quote was credited to Head re the Breeders’ Cup.
With that in mind (coupled with other quotes credited to Freddie Head in today's brisnet.com report), I sense, today anyway, it's possible...rather than probable...that Goldikova will appear at BC 2011.
Speculation aside...fact is, Goldikova's a GREAT one for the ages

I saw that too about trying the ride differently and was wondering why??? hmmm...... I always like Goldi to come flying out nowhere rather than in the midst of the pack, she looks like she even has more of a pleasure giving the field a bigger lead then sucking it right back.
I sincerely hope she comes again and perhaps Immortal Verse too. I have to say any horse that beats Goldi cannot be too shabby either. Especially a precocious young filly.

trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while.

Goldikova was narrowly beaten on Oct 2 in the G1 7f Prix De La Foret by a sprint star Dream Ahead (Diktat), who had won 4 times G1 btw 6 and
7 furongs entering this race. Goldikova was the winner in this race last year by victimising Paco Boy half a length. She has been trained
specifically for a mile..and 7f is apparently not the distance she is tuned to.
2 months ago in the G1 8f Prix Jacques Le Marois, Goldikova was beaten for the 2nd time in a row in this event, finishing 1 length immediately
behind Immortal Verse. She was 2&1/2 lengths 2nd to Makfi (Dubawi) last year.
In all the 14 G1 she has won, only 3 are outside one mile (2 in 9f). The loss should take no luster out of her. Remember she is 2010 European
Horse Of The Year..many runners would try to ruin her mood before the big thing early next month...Strong Suit (recent victor in the Burj Khalifa
Challenge Stakes) is said to be one such fellow in the menacing group :
