A homeless bum could tell you what you should avoid so that you wont end up where he has got to.

I'll remember that and the next time I'm in a quandary, I'll seek out a bum for advise. :roll:

Anyone else notice Hoofit was supplemented for 100k in the turf sprint off 2 synthetic wins and is 15/1 ml? Grow some balls King, you would have been the favorite!

What other people do with their money and their horses should have no bearing on ball size, and Monday morning quarterbacking is for people that have no balls at all genetically. Fine post though, demonstrates a lot of class for an in tune fan. Ending up the favorite in any race is not an automatic trip to the winner's circle and statistics back up the fact that on average, only 3 out of 10 favorites win.

I was not aware that the owners of Hoofit put up the cash. I hope their risk pays off. There were 2 horses, Gentleman in 1998 and Starcraft, in 2005 that put up 800k supplemental fee to run in the BC Classic. Unfortunately, neither ran in the money. According to your ball size calculator, theirs were the size of beach balls.

A horse in the Juvy Sprint was supplemented too for $100k to run for the $500k they put up for that race, well done to those connections too.

people get into racing for different reasons.

if i had a net worth of 50 million dollars and i had the opportunity to win a 1 million dollar breeders cup race, screw it, why the hell not. i can afford it.

if i am trying to keep my head above water, it might not make as much sense to do the same

I hv had this weird view for long...if a horse needs to buy a starter ticket..its chance of finishing in the money for what he is
in must be poor..that logic sounds great but was indefinite :

High Chaparral paid $ 180,000 in 2002 and collected $ 2,000,000 from the 2 wins in BC Turf (2002 & 2003). Tiznow paid
$ 360,000 in 2000 and earned for himsdelf $ 4,500,000 also from 2 wins in the Classic (2000 & 2001). Ouija Board settle a
$ 90,000 bill in 2004 and netted $ 2,800,000 from 3 years she had run in F/M Turf (1st 2004, 2nd 2005, 1st 2006). The past
HOY Skip Away also swallowed a bill of $ 480,000 to land the 1997 BC Classic for $ 2,300,000. One year later, in 1998,
Silver Charm wrote a check for the same supplemental fee and got $ 1,00,000 from his 2nd place in that year's Classic.

There were huge casualties too.. most startling was the "amphibious" star, Gentlemen, who threw his owner's $ 800,000
note into the soup in the 1998 Classic (10th). Then Starcraft repeated exactly that in the same event 7 years later, in 2005.
He finished out of the money 7th.

In total, $ 24 million went out as supplements and $ 36 million has come home. 32 parties (ex double count from
multiple starts) had pleased their connections while 101 parties (ex multiple starts) disappointed.
