Hey Wilf,
We've had record rainfall this month in southeastern PA (13 inches so far) so while Parx has been closed, at least the turf course has finally gotten much needed watering! Ours have been on a break and will be back soon. Frankly, the turf season has been a challenge, because of weather, so we're looking forward to a 'fall' campaign.
Laurel has lots of turf races in their Sept.-Oct. book and, in the past, has carded turf races well into Nov., weather permitting. http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbHors ... -20111001D
Lots of maiden races at 5.5F, but there are options at all levels. Laurel's turf course is one of the best in the country since they rebuilt it.

Well today Tevvy was dropped in price to find the best spot and conditions for his next race after winning his nw 4 lifetime last out here at Presque Isle, however he still went off at 7/1 ,that's how competitive it has become at a track where the lowest purse is $18,000. I have moved to Thistledown recently to train on the easier surface and all my stock seemed to appreciate the change plus it's much closer to Presque Isle. Well Tevvy was sharp and fresh and stalked the leader until going on at the head of the straight, his leads were smoother than they have been and he was a gallant second at the wire; I was pleased!

Way to go Tevez! So you are actually AT Thistledown? Is the air better there than at Mountaineer?

Yes I am enjoying the benefits of the finest training surface in the USA, however you need a roadmap of the potholes that abound in the surrounding streets. The air is usually clear and invigorating coming over Lake Erie to the city but the air inside the barns is entirely at the control of it's occupants. They don't like you shipping out to run elsewhere which is understandable as entries are always light here but if your races do not fill then there can be no argument. I would like to have twenty horses here but 7 is all I can manage comfortably.

Well his shoes are pulled and feet trimmed, now we are looking for a ride from Cleveland to Ocala for some R & R while the grass is still good.

Thanks Zinn, it was pretty good for a cheaper kind of horse,if he is going to blossom next year then it will be on the grass which was a washout this year. He is my buddy and I have had him since he was 7 months old ,he has done well again and fed all the others in the barn when things were slow so now he can go back into his paddock to hang out in the sun and heal those tired legs.

Good job Wilf and Good job Tevy!!! Well deserved rest for Tevy and - perhaps for Wilf? Anyway wanted you to know that 'tho I've been a lurker until now this is one of my favorite threads - it realy captures the patience and persistence and perseveance that makes this sport go round. Take car the both of you - and your 'other' horses as well.

I can assure you that he much prefers carrots and can hear a carrot "snap" into two from a hundred feet, consequently I often have to "cough" to cover up the noise when I only have a carrot for one of the gang. I know that's it's a sneaky move but it saves some angry glares from the stall gate.

What a good year for Tevez. Is he the only one headed to pasture right now or are you "done for the year"?

If only Madelyn, there's no downtime for the two legged players on this stage. I am sending a few out for other career changes and looking for some winter money for those left in the barn. Actually today I was on my way to Fort Erie to touch bases with a few friends but never got there courtesy of a blown radiator hose in the middle of nowhere. Maybe next week I will try again.

OK holiday's over for the gang and the sun is shining down here so we are all galloping easily and happy to be under tack again. Tevvy is shod ,mane pulled, teeth floated ,wormed with "Quest-plus" and happy to have extra feed in his tub now. After evening feed I can lean on the barn rail with a cold one ,listen to the Sandhill Cranes feeding ,stare at the sunset and just dream of the road ahead. Nothing wrong with that eh?
