Yahoo, they are in foal!!!!

Postby madelyn » Thu Apr 21, 2005 1:05 pm

Our vet just left and every mare my new stallion Rocking Trick has covered so far this year -- he stopped them, they settled and they are all in foal... YAY! Five down, ten to go plus the outsiders... but my way of checking the mares and then just one cover plus with a maiden stallion and still batting 1000... Oh that feels good. Three more coming in heat this weekend, hopefully will have all of them done by the end of the month. Even my Feb 19th cover mare, Schwank, we checked her in March and the vet found nothing but she never came back, so I had her palpated today and Sure Enough she is about 8 weeks along!!! I was really certain we had caught her perfectly and was baffled with the March results.... :?

That's great news, Madelyn. It sounds like you are doing something right, and so is Rocking Trick.

Looks like Rocking Trick is going to be a real pro at this. Congrats on getting off to such a great start! Can't wait to see those first baby pics. :D

So, are you planning to sell any of the mares or keep them to foal them out?

Now, if he just proves as good a sire of winners as he is a covering sire, you're all set!

There's no Hallmark card for this particular milestone... (or maybe there is in Kentucky) but congratulations!

Madelyn, What mares have you bred to him? Are you going to sell them in foal or wait to see what they throw? I know how you feel, both of my mares are back in foal first breeding, Ahhh now I can rest.

I will need to sell five or six, just economics, to pay for this year. I have some nice mares already lined up for next year. And I got two more booked to him the other day, plus two for my other horse, coming from Ohio. Almost like folks were waiting to see if he was fertile. I'm really glad we got Schwank so early... she has a drop dead gorgeous 3yo filly and yearling colt and knew the ropes... but it gave us time to see for ourselves. He covered two more yesterday and I am bringing three more in to monitor.
