The Tiznow Stakes at Hollywood Park today

Postby erhrdt3 » Sat Apr 28, 2012 6:08 pm

Wow, did anyone just see the Tiznow Stakes at Hollywood Park on TVG?

I did not really pay much attention to the field since I was on the computer, but I did watch the actual race. It looked like one of horses in the front of the field would take it, but then all of a sudden a gorgeous big black horse comes flying out from the rail and passed them all to win by a respectable amount of lengths!

He was gorgeous, and he looked so familiar so of course I had to look up his pedigree and he is by Soul of the Matter, who is by Private Terms. Looked just like that beautiful late Private Terms, who just happened to be The Great Ruffian's nephew.

Then TVG showed the amazing Black Caviar's 20th win. She is something else. Beautiful looking too.

Makes you just shake your head that Zenyatta was taken away from us on a loss. :(

Hope all of you are doing well!

what i find so amazing about black caviar is not so much her win streak but the fact that she will run right back either this week or next week. she not only wins, she wins without months in between races.

Is Black Caviar by a famous stallion or has a famous dam? Or is she just one of those freaks of nature? I never really paid much attention to Australian racing before to be honest.

She is not unique in being run back so promptly.

They actually TRAIN horses in Oz, and they run the top horses quite often. It is not unheard of for horses to make 4 Grade 1 starts in 5 weeks, ending with the 2 mile Melbourne Cup.

They are doing something very right, and doing it with the same bloodlines we have here.

It isn't amazing. They do that routinely in Oz. They used to do it routinely here. It's just that the training style is different.

A review of the 3 y o campaign of Citation reveals a schedule that no one would dream of today.

her sire is bel espirt who was a decent Aussie horse, whose sire's dam line is in the same family as storm cat / royal academy. decent but not spectacular female family.

if I am not mistaken she went through the magic millions sale, their version of keeneland for like 110k. she was decently thought of but not like they knew out the box what they had or anything.

she has a little brother who can run as well, though not on her level he's a graded stakes caliber horse.

I have come to the conclusion that the only way she can lose is off a layoff. she's a tiny bit vulnerable off a long layoff. once she gets 1 or 2 under her belt though she's virtually unbeatable. she's like ghostzapper that she gallops faster than other horses run so she is never in trouble. The horses can't keep up with her to put her in trouble. she gets a A+ trip every time and she's quite push button.

the only way i see her losing is off a layoff going 5 or 5 and a half F, her preferred is 7F and up against some serious competition. unless she runs against frankel the euro's have no shot in hell of beating her and even then i don't think he could beat her after this last set back he has had.

the horse that won the al quoz sprint in dubai in march, she beat in Australia without even breaking out of a gallop and beat very handily.

thanks BDW, you always have the answers....and it is much appreciated!

I'm going to ask you here, or anyone else that reads, but am going to put a regular post to ask this: I am now at the point of needing to get our jockey silks made.

One design is custom, the other is more simple, but nice.

Can you or anyone else recommend a place that I can contact for this? This part is all new to me, so I know the first place I'd come is here for help.

Thanks again BDW, you rock!

I've used Victory Silks, they are reliable, quick to get the silks to you, and inexpensive. #800 597-7455
