Does anyone have a pick in the race? I am going with Mucho Macho Man. I thought he was the most impressive older horse I've seen all year. I see they shipped in late. No work over the track but I'll take a chance he will like the surface..

yes. Ron the Greek. and you know what, to me this is the 2nd eaist race on the entire card to handicap.

lol, keep in mind though i lost the first easiest today with executive privilege
\

strip away all the graded stakes wins, all the TV shown workouts, all the trainer talk, there is only 2 horses in this race that has won a graded stakes race on dirt at 10F . it was the exact same race, one of them is 9/5 and one is 6 to 1, and the one that is 6-1 did it this year and the one that did it at 9/5 did it last year.

that would be ron the greek. and shit it was at this track on this surface. and you get him at 6 to 1

I think Game on Dude is the better horse.. lol i cofounded the game ond ude bandwagon when he was getting thumped in the florida derby. but i'm not convinced that he wants 10F under a real pace pressure he's gonna get..
but i think one of those 2 is your winner. i don't see ayone else getting 10F

For once I agree with you bdw, I like Ron The Greek in the Classic. Would love to see Mott win it again too.

Pretty good race. I thought MMM was going to cruise by at the top of the lane but Fort Larned was not to be denied. The rest were far back. G O Dude broke a little sluggish then Bejarano tried sitting behind four or five horses which never works with a free running horse. Congrats to Brian Hernandez. Always a joy to see anyone not considered elite have success at the highest level.

How many times do we miss the obvious handicapping stuff? Fastest horse, fast track, 9-1. Good grief. Unknown why Ft. Larned was anything except in the lead in JC Gold Cup. Game On Dude: questionable body language, horrible warm up. What is Baffert thinking letting some girl pony rider obviously into everything but warming the horse up that barely gets into a gallop(?). Justice possibly for removing Chantal Sutherland?

most people underestimated just how finicky game on dude is. i knew the second he took her off G.O.D was done, not so much because of karma

what people forgot about the G.O.D time line, si that, there was a YEAR, between when Baffert got G.O.D and the light came off in G.O.D's head.. he was a very very avg Allowance/G3 type horse until he hooked up with Chantel. S/he got him. Just like Valvivia gets rail trip. she got his quirks, she got him to relax, she got him to run. Do you realize that Valvivia(sp) has ridden rail trip since late 2008... and he's never in his career finished off the board as long as he has ridden Rail trip.

'
also with G.O.D, keep in mind, Baffert wasn't hisw first trainer. he was a very hyped horse in Gulfstream as a 3YO, Jeremy Rose started off riding him. then once he flashed some talent was sent to baffert.. Martin Garcia rode him in the Belmont. and all this time he was a borderline graded stakes horse, and these jockeys aren't chopped liver.

the horse did not turn the corner into chantel got on him. he had seen 2 trainers, 4 jockeys, and no corner. now a year later, baffert thinks it's all him. that's why i said he was done.

at times i believe trainers over estimate their value to a horse and under est. a articular jockeys value. in particular with geldings they are geldings for a reason.

G.O.D is extremely temperamental a lot like War Emblem in that regard and it's why he's a gelding.

Baffert blew this trying to save face from his poor management of the horse earlier in the year

Good points--I thought the horse was done seeing him in the post parade. That was a puzzling jock switch, although--C. Sutherland--was she suspended for a day for failing a breath test? unknown what was going on behind scenes. If a jock came one time in the morning to my barn smelling off alcohol, they're off my horse. Substance abuse problem there as possible explain of jock switch? Wild speculation.

i mean i really don't want to sound like a sore sport or like i have an agenda beucase all things told i like baffert. Honestly I like baffert more than I like chantal so I really don't have an agenda here, but I saw this coming a mile away.

the good thing however is that he will get another crack next year :)

Sutherland retired. She probably told BB about it in time for him to "take her off" G.O.D.

Back to the Classic.. Fort Larned.. have to admit I did not see that coming. Great for E Dubai. Notice how many "small fee" stallions were represented (well) this year in the Breeder's Cup?

regardless of why he did it, the result /equation is the same. G.O.D needed chantel IMHO, regardless of why she isn't on him that fact part of the equation doens't change just because the circumstances of her not being on him are different

a trend i have been noticing is that there seems to be a great disconnect between the race track and the breeders, at least the higher level ones than ever.

i mean in the past, it was a given that you were going to pay a lot of money for a really good horse. and it was also a given that more times than not, the horse wasn't gonna perform up to expections. but also, that if you wanted a seat at the big boy table, this is pill that unless by some fluke or some real dedcation into building your own broodmare band yourself, that you just had to swallow beucse these are the horses that won the big boy and big girl races

there is only one horse in the entire 2 day event that was won that was purchased for more than 200,000 (hightail).. given the fact that DWL was the trainer of that one i don't think that's a surprise.

all the rest of the horses, are either lower end to lower middle class type horses that just resulted in very good breeding (misdirection, Shanghi Bobby, t-burg beholder was a half to into micheif and barley brought 100k, by someone who has their own breeding operation (fort larned, little mike, groupie doll, royal delta was purcahsed for 8.5 mil but was originally a home bred in 2011, tapizar)

at least in thep ast you had a chance at the big show. it's like big breeders now could give a shit about breeding and pretty much just care about what is the best stallion they can get a mare booked to that won't create a horse with 8 legs. and it's starting to show in the biggest end of the race track
