Postby Patuxet » Fri Dec 07, 2012 11:30 am

A pair of article: one about the successful Hong Kong Jockey Club; the other about shipping horses all over the world, including Hong Kong, to race,.

Not when I click on it. Maybe a NYTimes subscriber/non-subscriber issue?

Actually no Patuxet ,I just read both of the articles and was looking forward to perhaps watching the marvellous Cirrus Des Aigles run over there after his great run behind Frankel. The sad fact is that I just also read that Cirrus has a tendon problem and will not start, what a shame!

"A waiting list of one to four years to get an owner's license". Wow.
One of James Clavell's novels has Sha Tin racing and horses as part of the plot, either TaiPan or Noble House. As was his usual style with Clavell he represented his stories with as much truth as fiction. The article mentions the security systems in place to give the public a transparency that gambling casino's cannot match which is in part responsible for the huge numbers of persons and dollars that stay involved. Interesting. It makes you wonder who'll be taking more horses out and away from US racing in the next few years.
