Racetrack Drugs Put Europe Off U.S. Horse Meat

Postby Patuxet » Sun Dec 09, 2012 11:53 am

”Racehorses are walking pharmacies,” said Dr. Nicholas Dodman, a veterinarian on the faculty of Tufts University and a co-author of a 2010 article that sought to raise concerns about the health risks posed by American racehorses. He said it was reckless to want any of the drugs routinely administered to horses “in your food chain."

One more reason not to eat horsemeat.
The more I get to know people, the more I love animals.

I'm surprised this is coming to light now, race horses have been "dirty" meat for EVER. I hated feeding it to dogs for fear of the drugs 20 years ago. People who have been eating it have also been exposed all along. Today there is not as much as there used to be, drug wise.

not all horse meat comes from race horses.

Besides, eating horse meat is no more dangerous than eating imported fast food beef.

And now there is one much more recent that could not have been purchased from the feedlot no matter what! At Least the above 2 were lucky.......Backstreet Bully - killed at Les Viandes de la Petite Nation January 8, 2013 despite EVERY effort made to prevent it from happening by both Mindy Lovell and Adena Springs. Very sad indeed. Paperwork even faxed to the vet at the plant showing drugs in the system. Slaughtered anyway. They didn't care.

Horses are COMPANION animals, and should not be bred so much that there is even an overload of them to be slaughtered. It makes me SICK that people can breed them, foal them, name them race them, then if they don't do well, they toss them away like yesterday's trash to the killer buyers. I'd like to see EVERY trainers lisc. be taken away that is found to be doing this crap.

I find it hard to believe that a slaughter house in Mexico would not spare a horse if someone offered them a decent profit to set it aside and charge a daily rate untill it was picked up.

these people are in business to make a profit, not kill just because they are evil.

It was Quebec Griff and they definitely would have profited on this one. EVERYTHING that could have been done to pull this one out was done, Plant still refused

I know some of the people that work for them.I bet they did not want anybody to see the state of the poor animal. And the damn vet that inspect the meat there when interviewed said"if we start not killing ar putting aside all the horses that people want, who will take care of them?Stupid answer

Everything that could be done was done???

How about an offer of $10,000 to pull him??

Or, $5,000??

Everything covers a lot of territory

Everyone should go to facebook, look up Transitions Thoroughbreds, and read the story of Backstreet Bully. It is truly a travesty what happened to this horse. This is one story that should not be allowed to quietly slip away.
