Yes shipping has gotten ridiculous and i know the diesel has gone up. But a 600 mile trip might take about $125 in diesel to get there and he got charged $1400. It probably took them 8.5 hrs to get there. Hell i might get in the shipping business.

$4 a gallon?? I would love those prices; here we are at $1.50 a liter my dodge dually tag is $945.16 a year with mandatory yearly inspection on both truck and trailer so another minimum $200. if they don't find any quirks to fix...Insurance at $235. a month. Mandatory winter tires every year ...And log book filled up like you are driving a tractor trailer!!!!
The sport and industry survive not only because of the champions that are remembered forever but also because of the losers that are so easy to forget...

Is your diesel a hybrid?

Most of those big rigs I have driven get about 10 mi to the gallon loaded, fuel would be at least $240. If it was a "special" and the driver could not hook a return, and came back empty, he might have charged the round trip. A 600 mile trip is more like 10 hours each way, allowing for refueling, meals, etc. Not everyone lives on air and has a helicopter to refuel their truck while it is moving. The price might have been on the high side but no one held a gun to the owner's head.

Never had a farm call charge yet in Ocala. Even for emergencies, I have been lucky that way as nothing occurrs at night. Trims are $25 here and at any track I go to. Shoeing is $90 @ Mountaineer and $100 @ Thistle and Fort Erie, all top class tradesmen.

So you really get 20 miles to the gallon hauling a trailer with horses in it?

the charges have nothing to do with what is fair and/or reasonable. It's about Supply and Demand; i.e., The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith.
