And now the name logics:
The Kentucky Derby was won by a horse whose name begins with the letter “O” (Orb).
The Preakness Stakes was won by a horse whose name begins with the letter “O” (Oxbow).
The Belmont Stakes can be win by a horse whose name has something to do with the letter “O”.
Hmmm, do you know that there are several alternatives with the letter “O”? Let’s examine them:
01. Of course, Orb may repeat.
02. Of course, Oxbow may repeat.
03. Of course, Overanalyze seems like an emerging natural choice with the letter “O”.
04. But wait, Golden Soul has a name who sounds too “Ooh”.
05. Then there is Midnight Taboo whose name doesn’t sound too “Ooh” but happens to contain two letters “O”.
Well who knows if the winner may be one of the aforementioned.

What are your thoughts re Belmont bound Palace Malice?
The son of a gun not only appears (to me anyway) to have serious talent...but also, be extreeeeemely tenacious.
Think about it...after the colt had a TERRIBLE trip/ride/experience in the Louisiana Derby (March 30th), he delivered another all-out effort in the Bluegrass in Lex (just 14 days after the La Derby); finishing second (after tiring the final sixteenth, and being nailed at the wire), picking-up enough points to be KyDerby bound.
Then (just 3 weeks later) Palace Malice ran in the Ky Derby (May 4th), set brilliant fractions (likely the result of being barely [if at all] restrainable with the addition of blinkers) and (understandably) fizzled, and finished up-the-track.
Fast forward...he recently worked a smokin' 46 and change in his final pre-Belmont work; and the blinkers are off now.
For what it's worth...I see a horse that makes a tenacious effort always, but I'm perplexed with how he's being managed. Who do you believe is calling the shots, when it comes to Palace Malice? Is it Pletcher; or is it owner Cot Campbell? Or is it maybe both whose better judgment may be blurred, and good senses dulled, as a result of some sort of delirium (
for lack of a better word) fueled by the dream of a classics win in the Belmont?
I see in Palace Malice a helluva colt that seems to give it his all every time he sets foot on the track...but I'm concerned for his welfare based on what's being asked of him, and how he so willingly/unflinchingly/gamely/tenaciously/forwardly/aggressively seems to respond...and give it his all.
If he does start in the Belmont, and I've read/heard nothing that indicates otherwise, I will be pulling for him, his safety and well being. Maybe he's an iron horse, thrives on it all, and will easily handle being tested/used so aggressively. I certainly hope so.
I can only hope that the character and integrity of Team Palace Malice is, at the very least, the equal of the integrity and character of what appears to be a very generous, game, tenacious, and formidable Palace Malice.
Thoughts?

Hi FOS,
I believe Pletcher is strongly influenced in his decisions by others, such as syndicate/racing manager's Cot Campbell who oversee's Dogwood. Elliot Walden (who trained the Belmont Stakes winner Victory Gallop) racing manager for WinStar Farm and Mike Repole, who overruled Pletcher when he made the decision to run Midnight Taboo in the Belmont. That being said, Palace Malice has been unlucky and quite green in many of his races. It's taken him some time to get his act together, but the raw talent is there. The B's were added to his equipment, not to add speed to his repertoire, but to cut down on his antics. Rosie N said he was looking around in the Risen Star and Garret Gomez said he got spooked by tractor tracks in the Blue Grass and unexpectedly switched leads at the wire possibly causing his defeat. There's no doubt he was rushed along to make the Derby....but prior to that he had just two weeks between races to get the points he needed in his Blue Grass 2nd....certainly an unfamiliar training pattern for Todd Pletcher who prefers 5 weeks between starts. Although he never really was able to show his ability in any of those races he ran prior, because he was green or he was in trouble in the La. Derby (blocked) and Risen Star (wide). Now he's back home and has Pletcher's preferred 5 weeks between races and I doubt he will be near as rank as he was in the Derby. He worked in 47 and change the other day at Belmont and galloped out in 59 and change and Mike Smith won't let the same scenario play out that did in the Derby. Oxbow finished less than 4 lengths in front of Palace Malice in the Derby even after he set those fast fractions....if he settles in the early going Saturday, he could be laying close after slow early fractions and that could put him in full control of the Belmont Stakes. Regards, TJ

i think there is some serious money to be made in the belmont.
this is one of those times i'm going to wager and know i'm probably going to lose but it's the correct wager still. i like the filly.
1. id on't think the avg horse player understands just how deep the 3YO filly crop is. there are 3-4 fillies that can win grade 1 male races this year and unlimited budget is one of them.
2. pletcher is passing on the acorn in the same race card to run her here. on top of that, repole has a horse in the race already in revolutionary, who is higher odds. they wouldn't be running her here unless they expected her to run her ass off.
and i'm not a pletcher fan. she's better than every horse in this race not named orb and i dont' think the pace plays in orbs favor. if orb wins this he could be the next curlin.

every year i tell myeslf i will never wager on the belmont again. and every year i do it anyway
you can't handicap the belmont. it's not possible. because no horse in the race can get the distance
you have to basically guess who is going to be towards the front going into the turn
they went 27 and 3 in the final quarter and no horse in the field came remotely close to catching the first 2.
