North Invasion finished 4th of 10 in a 2000m race at Marseille Vivaux on synthetic. She finished 1 3/4 lengths behind the winner. There are no notes for the race. (She loves soft turf, synthetic is going in the wrong direction. Send her where the rain is!)

Enzaal won a Class 4 Handicap at 1 mile 2f & 75y at Chester. He led, was ridden over 2f out, was headed - then came back to retake the lead from the favorite and held on for the win. That's new for him! He really gets this distance if he can fight back. Watch the video, Enzaal jockey in the black cap.

Awesome Ausus! Graded Stakes Winner!
She won the Modesty Handicap G3 on turf easily and her time was just 0.74 off the track record. She cruised in 4th 3 lengths from the front, went 3 wide into the stretch and drove past the leaders to win by 2 1/2 lengths in a field of 8. Here's the chart, more later. I'm looking forward to the articles with her name in the headline and her picture.

Here's a nice Ausus article from Bloodhorse with a good picture and a link to the race video. Also more from the trainer.

The article doesn't say but males ran the same distance over the same turf course in the American Derby G3 and the winner, Infinite Magic, finished in "a strong 1:55.41". Well, Ausus finished in an even stronger 1:53.94. She can run!

There's a new Mexican Invasor: Komejhen, a colt foaled in 2011. He ran 5f sprints twice at Hipodromo de las Americas on May 31 and June 18 and was second both times. Here is his equibase pedigree:
http://www.pedigreequery.com/komejhen
Kentucky Koin did not regain his form in his second race of 2013 in Russia. In his first at 200 meters he was far back and in his second, a 1600m listed stakes, he finished last. 1600m is too short, but all the same the race was too bad to be true.

The picture of Invasor's progeny is becoming clearer and with it the reasons he hasn't lived up to expectations. The first reason is that he sires good OLDER horses. Subtract a year from their ages and the performance of his progeny would attract mares. The second reason is that he sires endurance horses and US races are mostly short. There is the Belmont at 1 1/2 miles on dirt and a few turf races at that distance. In Europe his horses (except Mooqtar) did nothing much at 2 but were run at longer distances at 3, which produced turf winners at 3: Arbaah, Enzaal, and North Invasion, and Adeem on dirt in Sweden. In the US these horses, who will be far better at 4, would be mediocre milers and sprinters their whole careers. What a waste! Invasor's sire, Candy Ride, had similar problems in the US. His best progeny raced elsewhere before coming here and becoming stars when they were older.
In US racing precocious and brilliantly fast two year old horses pushed out the late developing classical American horse. For buyers brilliant 2 year olds were instant gratification. They won prestigious Graded Stakes at 2 and became Kentucky Derby hopefuls. Invasor requires buyers to wait and laugh last, which is close to being un-American. Ausus is his first Graded Stakes winner at 4 now that her speed is going up (she ran faster than males on the same day at the same track and at the same distance). Expression, a sprinter, is showing enormous improvement at 4 - if it had happened last year...
Candy Stripes didn't succeed as a US sire, but the sons he produced as a shuttle stallion have done well: Le RoiDesAnimaux sired Animal Kingdom, for example. I haven't heard what happened with the plan for Invasor to stand at the Stud that bred him but it would be a good thing for his progeny to get their racing foundation running where precocious speed isn't king.

Last time I posted that Invasor's sire Candy Stripes (Candy Ride was a typo) did not do well as a US sire, either. His champions started their careers in South America and South Africa (Lundy's Liability) before winning big races in the US. I hope Invasor has the opportunity to sire horses who get their racing foundation in countries that haven't (yet) converted racing into an enterprise for horses that have brilliant but short careers and seldom race above 9f. Invasor has the classic Argentine pedigree, may it long continue!
Calidoscopio is very popular here, he is like the legendary Silky Sullivan who won from 22 lengths behind the field. Calidoscopio is lucky he was born in Argentina. In the US he might be running in sprints at a minor track.
Rawaafed returned to the races after a 16 day vacation to finish 7th of 8 at a mile. He never really got going and finished 6 lengths behind the winner.

Adeem won his second victory at 2400m (about 12f) on dirt in Sweden. This time he beat Lovesong, the horse who beat him last time. The analysis had Lovesong as the favorite but Adeem got some respect:
Race 4, V65-3
dt 2400
1 Lovesong was heading for the Danish Derby but failed on the Klampenborg turf track and took a break. Won comfortably over these conditions and should be the horse to beat here. 2 Senator Sam has taken two impressive wins in a row. Is a slow starter but uses to finish well. This longer distance is an advantage. Main challenger. 6 Adeem could never threaten Lovesong in the last race and finished second. Is unexperienced and should be on the way up. Should not be ignored here. 3 Pantamera was beaten by Silver Ridge in the last race. Faces better conditions this time and could cause an upset.
Here's a picture of Adeem & Lovesong battling to the finish - Adeem saved the day for the trainer:

US Trainers: Invasors win at Classic distances and longer on turf and on dirt. Now that Ausus is a graded stakes winner (hoping she also wins the Beverly D G1!) and Saint Arthur a stakes winner Invasor should attract more than the 14 mares bred so far. Hopefully more of his offspring get the opportunity to strut their stuff in route races here in the USA.

Al Faatik won a 6f dirt sprint MSW!He broke 2nd, ran 3 wide into the stretch, a head behind the pacesetter, put his head in front in the early stretch and ran with determination to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths. I'm thrilled to eat crow for dissing his chances on dirt! PARTY!

Invading Humor was an unfortunate 4th in a $72,000 5.5f turf allowance for 3 & older at Saratoga. She broke through the gate before the start and was stopped by the assistant starter. She was off 12th (last), ran 10th on the inside, was crowded at the half, then angled out in upper stretch to finish 4th.

Saratoga has some of the best racing in the US so, considering the trouble she had, closing 6 lengths to finish 4th shows real promise.

Rawaafwed finished 2nd at 1 mile & 4f & 100 yds in a Handicap at Musselburgh. He was sent off as the last betting choice after never getting going at 7f last time, 8 days ago. Today he had an "awkward" start and ran in the rear, advanced 3f out, couldn't catch the winner but finished 2 lengths ahead of the rest.

Arbaah ran in a handicap at a mile and 6f (2800m) on turf. Because of her strong win at a mile and 5f she carried an extra 7 lbs and was the high-weight. Arbaah led all the way last time, never challenged. In this race 2 horses traded the lead back and forth until the winner, a closer, took it near the end. Arbaah tracked the leaders, lost 3d, regained it over 3f out, was asked for more, hung right 2f out and weakened to finish 6th (last). The extra weight and distance were factors, and she probably disliked not having the lead. But the jockey was right to hold her back with two other horses dueling for the lead. If she learns to stalk she'll have energy at the end, when it counts. This race may have been a useful lesson.

Montford Park was 3d of 10 in a mile race on turf at Ellis Park. He was 5 wide in the first turn, made a run and got to 2nd but tired and finished 3d, 5 3/4 behind the winner.

Phangio "finished best of all" to dead-heat for 2nd, 1/2 length behind the winner in a 1 mile 3f & 162yd Handicap at Wexford. He was 5th early, last halfway, began his drive 3f out and kept on well in the final furlong to share 2nd at the line. The quote about finishing best of all is from a short article about the race which includes a photo: Phangio is the horse on the right, still gaining.

The race was run 2.63 secs faster than the course average. Phangio was dead last in his 2013 debut, in the middle of the pack in his second race and very competitive this time.
