Shug switched plans for Honor Code's Rebel debut after racing secretary PJ Campo persuaded him to stay here....if he could make this allowance race go. The race did go (Wednesday) and Shug will remain in Florida and look for Derby points next in the Florida Derby. Social Inclusion will make a race of it. TJ

Very impressive race from Social Inclusion....took the lead and never looked back winning by eight and setting a track record. Honor Code ran OK, considering he's playing catch up, refused to enter the gate and needed the whole crew to push him in, never a good sign! Take nothing away from Social Inclusion, who may just be a last minute surprise to this years Derby contender's? TJ
I'm so frustrated with Gulfstream's surface. How can we really get a read on these horses down there? It's just so souped up.
Not taking anything away from Social Inclusion (he looks like a good one).
But that surface is just SO biased.
I think Honor Code needed a race. Don't know what to think about his refusal entering the gate, he has seemed pretty professional in his other races.

Hi Cree,
No doubt Honor Code needed the race. It wasn't really the racing surface....no more speed favoring then Santa Anita. Social Inclusion is a serious race horse and he has speed and stamina...and another runner for Pioneer Of The Nile. I half expected Honor Code to get beat....but not this easily? He was a bit hot behind the gate (and also in his last workout), then he dug his feet in a couple times and stubbornly refused to go in the gate...when he finally went in, he backed right out again. That's when they had to push him in there with 1/2 the gate crew. Both are negative signs...and after seeing this debacle, Shug will have some decisions to make....like whether to stay here or ship to NY for the Wood (where it will be cooler and easier) or quit rushing him and scrap the Derby all together? TJ
Here's the race. Fractions were slow early and fast late...the announcer called the wrong 1/2 mile time, he said 45.2, when it was actually 47.2. Making Social Inclusion's race all the more impressive. Truth is, it was also a good prep for Honor Code who desperately needed that race. His antics going in the gate is still a concern? Social Inclusion received a 111 beyer, Honor Code gets a 93....best of any 3YO this season. TJ

I am interested in what Shug has to say about it, I mean Honor Code did what we all expected he would do and beat the other three by over 17 lengths just running around the track. I think it was a good run considering all of the pre-race antics. The more people that got involved only made him dig in harder, not good. I hope it is nothing because when this horse has his mind on racing there are very few that can beat him to the wire.

I think Honor Code had a lot going against him today. He definitely needed the race.
Social Inclusion got to the front and slowed it down and relaxed. He really had all control of the race.
The gate antics = he's still young, green? Maybe a bit of a stubborn dude. I always thought he seemed like a pro. Maybe he was agitated by the heat?
He looked sweaty. I agree about sending him into New York for the Wood.
Social Inclusion was impressive, but I'm honestly scratching my head at this Beyer. The horse got a 111 for an allowance on Gulfstream's freeway. I'm thinking of California Chrome's race this weekend, which I thought was more impressive. I don't get Beyers these days. Does this 111 (best of all 3-year-olds so far) mean he has been the fastest? Or most dominating?

i have learned, and i'll get slack for this, but Beyers for 3YO's pre derby are utterly useless. not even worth the paper that they are printed on. Too much are riding on those beyers for them to be unbiased.
now just like that, Florida has a "contender" for the florida derby wheras before today they had a bunch of also rans basically. just like that. with a print of 1 number. screw all that.

With Wildcat Red and General A Rod going to the Florida Derby, that could be an interesting and very fast race.
Hi Cree,
Trainer Manny Azpurua and his owner announced they are looking at the Wood or Florida Derby for his next start. Original plan was to run in the Preakness, but after his win yesterday, they are thinking Derby. There have been a few offers to buy him in whole or in part following yesterdays race...so those plans remain to be seen?
Speaking of General A Rod....he will have a change of rider for the Florida Derby...switch back to Rosario. Castellano will have to decide between Constitution and Honor Code..... Shug was happy with the way Honor Code ran and came out of the race...but wants to wait before deciding whether to run in the Wood or the Florida Derby. Cairo Prince, another Pioneerof the Nile with speed will assure plenty pace for this years Florida Derby. Anchor Down is another undefeated colt, who will run in the Florida Derby, he's got speed too. Truth is the Wood will also be loaded with speed? Figuring out where to run is like a chess game:>) TJ
