CONDYLAR FRACTURE, common to TURN-TO line runners.
Enough said..........those who still don't get it, have no hope, you
are totally clueless, and should NEVER breed a horse.
The score:
Hell Blood.............one
Afleet Alex..........zero
Had to happen...............along with GIACOMO
Look for SAINT LIAM to go down before end of year, also
Those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it by continual breeding to UNSOUND bloodlines.
AFLEET ALEX.........latest casualty of poor breeding =TURN T

When you mask the unsoundness with medication you are creating a false soundness.
When these individuals enter stud and pass on their unsoundness to their offspring, their offspring have to race on med to prevent their unsoundness.
This is a never ending cycle that is taking its toll on a stallions progeny average starts.
The Euro way with no med is the best as their is no false unsoundness with their no med policy.

Where is TurnTo in Afleet Alex? According to the pedigree on this site, he he only has Turn To through Roberto and Sir Gaylord on the dam side, and Roberto seems to be known for siring hard knocking, sound horses. Why do you blame Turn To for his problem?
I'd be more likely to blame his Native Dancer blood on the top side.

Since one can find Turn-To in the pedigree of so many of todays horses I am surprised multiple horse aren't breaking down in every race across America.
American Mud, A horse I have a close connection to, is inbreed 6Sx4D to Turn-To. He has good conformation and he is very sound. His dam Soonermon, (by Pumpkin Moonshine, Cyane, and the dreaded Turn -To)made 49 starts and retired sound.
I will begrudingly concede that Turn-To had some soundness issues he has passed on to his progeny, but certainly nothing more than other influencial sires
Regards, Shergar.
PS: Sorry to all others on the board. Today was my day to feed the trolls.

Hi folks,
You should be ashamed of your dissenting replies or attempts to place the blame on any blood source other than Turn-To - in any foal that gets injured.
Ballymoss has made a long study of this phenomenon and when he spots Turn-To in a pedigree of a horse that gets injured - he's sure to let us know. Heck, he'll even predict their demise.
Just as he did when Cigar, Broad Brush (3x3 Turn-To), Lost Code, Concern, Include (4x4x4 Turn-To) and Mongoose(4x4x4 Turn-To) were all tragically injured (take a look at Illeria's foals by sires Affirmed and Coronado's Quest who have no Turn-To).
Or when Buddha, Ghostzapper went down.
Every foal with Seattle Slew, Dynaformer, Lear Fan, St. Ballado, Devil's Bag and Kris S (just to name a few), are doomed. It's sad - and some of them never even heard of Turn-To. If your horse has Turn-To blood - eat them fast before they get hurt!
Ballymoss, you've done another public service. I hope you're well and that the voices have gone away. TURN-TO.

I had a bad feeling about this race for him. Monmouth does not set up well for him. However, this apparently happened at Belmont. Although the horse had never trained at Belmont, last year he was shipped from Delaware.
A condylar canon fracture is usually lights out. I'd retire him and get on with it.
This horse was trained very hard. Probably it's just wear and tear that caused this injury.

Hi Joe,
Good to see you.
It's a sad fact of the game. Magnificent animal, wonderful athelete they can battle at nearly 40mph with a man on their back and then take one bad step and they fighting for their lives.
Cure The Blues was being led back to his stall when he took a bad step and had to be put down.
It's sad for racing, bad for his connections and may not be such a big deal for Alex. I hope that his connections (and Ritchey's a bright guy) don't feel the need to bring himback unless he's 100%.
As for Ballymoss, the sire, he seems to have had less sound horses than Turn-To (check the database). Guess Ballymoss the poster is being a Buckpasser

Of course they could be lying through their bridles but the docs and connections say Afleet Alex should be back this year and competing at the "elite level" he was at before. I'll believe it when I see it but I think it's interesting that they seem to say this is the world's smallest and easiest condylar fracture to fix ever ever ever... let's all hope so. They said it only took 1 screw and compressed well.
Anybody care to shoot odds that he'll make the Breeders' Cup? The connections said he's obviously out of the Haskell and Travers but appeared optimistic. I don't understand why it's not a 2-3 months rest type thing that'd knock him out of the BC. Can anyone explain?

As I recall, that prediction came from the manager of Cash is King. If I remember correctly, Afleet Alex is their first (!) horse ever. I personally don't see how a horse with a screw in his ankle comes back in 90 days to jog, much less compete in the Breeders Cup. I think it's more likely that when they look at the realistic timetable, they start looking around for the best farm to stand their horse next year--not because they are greedy etc etc but because it's what makes the most financial sense.

I just finished a lesson on long bone fractures for school. Based on that, I would say he's done.
But, I can't shake the thought of either Personal Ensign or Bayakoa having something like 13 screws and a plate put in her ankle, and coming back to race again. If they could do it, maybe there's hope for Alex. Does anyone else remember this, and what the nature of the injury was?

Don't know the nature of the injury, but it was Personal Ensign and it was 5 screws and she retired (as we all know) UNDEFEATED!!!
So don't count Alex out yet . . . . . . .
