Precious Marque mating to River Keen filly
I know of a young filly available and was interested in obtaining her for breeding. She is not registered yet, but by River Keen o/o Cherylina by Shahrastani. I was thinking of breeding her to the Marquetry stud Precious Marque in Maryland for a few reasons. 1) The foal would have 4 crosses to Northern Dancer (three through Nijinsky- 2 male strains and a female), 2) at least 6 crosses to Alcibiades 3) 3 crosses to Turn-To, one of them being Sir Gaylord, the sire of Sir Ivor, who hails from Precious Marque's family. 4) and last but not least, this filly's 4th dam is Rossellina, full sister to Ribot, Precious Marque's broodmare sire-line. His first yearling from a test crop placed 4th at this year's MHBA Yearling Show in MD, defeating Declan's Moon's 1/2 brother. I would be breeding to race of course. Any thoughts on the cross, good or bad???
Bringing those strains together is just part of the picture. You might also consider the other aspects of the stallion. As Precious Marque ran out only $27K in 17 starts, his sire stands for only $7500, and the best foal from his dam ran out $38K. For an inexpensive horse that sure 'nuf throws runners, has good percentages, you might consider Lac Ouimet. He ran out over $800K, will get you a cross to Northern Dancer, is tail-mail to Ribot, and you will duplicate Little Hut.
I would sure hope Precious Marque looks better than that stallion photo they had in the 2003 Thoroughbred Times Stallion Directory, because an ewe neck and a set of suspicious-looking ankles over upright pasterns wouldn't appeal to me no matter how pretty the pedigree matchup looked on paper. The fact that a youngster did fairly well at the yearling show helps ease concern slightly on the conformation department, but one foal may or may not prove much about what this guy's going to throw.
Too bad Eastern Echo has passed on; this filly's granddam got some nice results with Damascus-line sires.

I actually had the same concerns about the stallion, but seeing the foal piqued my interest, so I decided to take a look. I am glad I did, because he is not the same horse in the Stallion Book. He has very nice conformation, maybe a bit long in the neck, but I heard Marquetry tends to throw that. But you know what they saw, "He'll never get beat in a photo". And I saw three of his foals, all as well put together as the colt in the show, one of them a gorgeous dk bay Paint. I got to look at the dam of the show colt, and Precious Marque had everything to do with the colt's conformation. She has funny knees, a weird hip and hocks, and a clunky head. The colt is the image of his Daddy, actually very filly looking in the head. I love the cross with Lac Ouimet, as well, but the stud fee and board in KY is more than I can handle. And the age I think is a bit of a worry. A horse I also like is Valiant Nature, closer to home, and a better price. But the stud fee to Precious Marque makes him extremely tempting.
