You know for a fact he had a stifle injury? The reason I ask is that I've got a gelding that injured his hock as a yearling and he does the same thing. He trots and gallops around just fine but occassionally, and it seems that this happens when he has just been standing still for atime, when he walks out he will lift his hind leg and swing it out too. He'll do this for one, maybe two strides and then is ok.
He is a really sweet boy, very laid back and I keep thinking I would like to just ride him but he is already 3 and I haven't done a thing to him 'cept feed him. I just don't have time to ride anymore, and don't want to send him to the local livestock sale.

Aurora- I had the vet/chiropractor out to look at him last week and he said that he was really messed up. Its not a stifle problem at all, but his right hip was TOTALLY out of place. He said that by looking at him he thinks that he fell really hard on his right side at one time.
He also told me (although I already knew) that he was in a lot of pain..... He worked on him for awhile and got the hip back where it was supposed to be and then got his right shoulder adjusted also. He was shocked at how messed up he was. He said the hip was pinching a nerve causing his rear leg to go numb (and get that fun pins and needles feeling) and that is why he was lifting it up and stretching it out. So... I feel better knowing that there isn't really a stifle issue.. its just that he got hurt falling or something. He has another appt October 13th and I will see if everything stayed in place....
