My trainer is smarter than me on many things, and he chose to enter Remote Control in the big race for Okie-breds on Saturday the 24th at Remington Park. Remote got soundly beaten in his last out against turf horses, many who were expected to contend the $40,000 purse Oklahoma Classics Turf.
The trainer figured everyone was going to steer clear of the tough guy in the feature race, Zee Oh Six, who's won nearly $300K and won the Oklahoma Classics Classic in the past. So he entered my gelding to race in the $75,000 Classics at 1 1/16 mi on the dirt, expecting a small field. He was right; we are the fourth favorite of five entries. If he races and finishes, we net $1250 after entry and starter fees. Of course, if he surprises anybody and comes in better, we can definitely say it was worth the risk and potential humiliation of finishing up the track.
P.S. For you Alphabet Soup fans, both the favorite and my gelding are sons of A. S.

Very good going, henthorn... this is how whatshisname ended up placing in two graded stakes on two consecutive days... the second race ended up with a field of five and the worst the horse could do was gallop behind the others for $9K... instead he took second and stunned everyone.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
I just looked up Zee Oh Six to see what his female family looked like, and couldn't remember why it looked familiar.
I didn't know Hail the Pirates' dam Bravura is Zee's fourth dam.
I'd forgotten Zee's 3/4 sister Belle of Cozzene won the Oklahoma Classics Classic a few years ago against the boys, and was a multiple graded stakes winner of over half-million dollars.
More importantly, his half-sister Belle's Good Cide is the dam of Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide!

Good luck!
Henthorn, I'll be rooting for you....love AS and his babies!
Remote Control showed us that his most recent past performance was no fluke, when he ran up the track twice in a row. In the previous race the comment was "steady fade". This time it was "finished early". It's so unlike him to poop out that we'll check him for physical problems, such as electrolyte problems, anemia, or thyroid disease. He clearly needs a rest, as he finished eleven lengths behind the field without obvious excuse.

My trainer has been telling me that he thinks Remote has psychological problems, since he usually doesn't perform well if he is headed. The only times he has passed horses was on a bullring track, maybe because the backstretch was less intimidating in distance. He wants him to get a good chance at confidence-building by placing him at $10K claiming, so he is not so overmatched. We expect him to improve with age, if we don't sour him permanently or get him hurt. So we'll try him at 7 1/2 furlong turf on October 8th for 10K.
