He has been a very solid regional sire and moves his mares up well. His weakness is that he gets a relatively low percentage of runners from foals -- what does get to the track usually wins and often does well, but he sires a lot of horses that never make it to the starting gate. I would tend to suspect knee issues since he himself had to be operated on for problems in this area; maybe someone who's actually seen the horse and some of his progeny can speak to this.

He has gotten good runners from most of the Cal sirelines, but of course his best, Officer, is from a Seattle Slew-line mare, something he does not apear to have seen a lot of.

Bertrando's filly's are golden on the racetrack, as they are mean and want to run all the other TB off the track.

I love this is in a stallion that gives his offspring the tenacity and mordant=strong will to defeat their competition.

I dont like stallions that their offspring has no confidence or no heart, as I call those stallions chicken little.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

I appreciate the input, I have 1 of the ones who never made it to the track, a son of Bertrando and out of Miss Gold Peace by Gold Alert, I think she had some succes on the track but not sure what she has produced. My horse has the strong willed attitude, very full of himself.
Thanks again

A very good SoCal horseman that I know said once to me about Bertrando..."you can tell the good Bertrando's from the bad, if they have a big powerful hip, then they can run".

I agree Mahubah. I have seen many Bertrando's and yes most of the ones I have seen have conformation problems. Mainly turning way out on one leg from the knee or ankles. I knew of one that was so ugly in the head, was WAY over at the kneeand was crooked, BUT he made over $40,000 in just a few starts. :)
I try not to listen to the voices in my head.
But sometimes they have such good ideas
