Very interesting breeding. Tornado is rarely seen in pedigrees and is a Tourbillon stallion that was not bred by Broussac. His intense linebreeding to St. Simon seems to work very well with other Tourbillon line offspring, even though they may appear way back in the pedigree.
Also, just curious...isn't Monsun the German word for "monsoon" and Shirocco a word meaning "desert storm" or "desert wind". Descending from "Tornado" I thought the carry forward of the weather-related names was a nice touch, even if just coincidence.

I’ve just returned from a nice local racing event at Mülheim (between Düsseldorf, Essen and Duisburg; top-event today: just a Listed race). As You all might imagine: Shirocco made all racing-fans in Germany very happy and proud. The BC Turf was repeated on the race-track's tv-channel there and what we saw of Shirocco was “quite good” - never in danger and the pacemaker did an excellent job.
When I got up early this morning, there was already an email by saintlyCZ in my mailbox – she was the first to let me know about Shirocco’s triumph. Thank You for that!
Your translation of the horses names is very good. Monsun is Your “monsoon” and Shirocco is a hot wind from the African side of the Mediterranean Sea. Tornado is something similar of “hurricane”. There are even more coincidences: in this year of disastrous hurricanes two German-bred and –raised horses with "wind names" (Hurricane Run and Monsun) won two of the most prestigious races in the world and Monsun benefited from the heavy rains in the New York region which were a consequence of hurricane Wilma.
Do You see the great stamina-influence in both horses pedigrees: the sires (Montjeu and Monsun) and the BMS (Surumu and The Minstrel) were all very good horses at 1 ½ miles.

Monsun was a very fresh horse with only 2 outings this year before BC, his 4th in the Arc with a strong finish indicated that he can beat at least his European rivals on a good day. And as I said before, the soft ground helped him. Nevertheless don't disregard the influences of that great trainer A. Fabre and his rider C. Soumillion knows his business as well inspite of his youth. This was one of the rare moments in racing when all good influences come together.
