I was just checking out Coolmore.com, and it looks like Giant's Causeway's listed at 300,000.
This makes me feel ill, because, as I've probably alluded to, I love this horse. I think that he will be a wonderful sire. I do not think he is presently worth 300,000, and to price him here really, in my opinion, makes his very real accomplishments seem insubstantial.
Any thoughts?

Thats steep for a horse whose progeny did not impress on Breeders Cup day. First Samurai is a really nice looking colt, but the two fillies I was not impressed with (very narrow and light). I just think he has got to do more to deserve an increase and I think Coolmore may be gambling on his first crop of U.S. bred 3yos hitting big next year. That may be a really big gamble.

I hereby nominate Pete (and his cat) as prescients. Back in June he wrote:
Now figure in the Godolphin "boycott" and the fact that most of GC's million dollar yearlings have been Ashford purchases. Ashford has deep pockets, but I don't think they're deep enough to be able to support their stallion at that fee. Meanwhile, the median sales price for a Giants Causeway yearling is $185,000. That's fine if you sent a mare to him for $75,000, but not for $150k, not for $200k, and certainly not for $300k. There is exactly one stallion who will benefit from this, in terms of sales prices and quality of mares, and that is Kingmambo (assuming he stays healthy).
Giants Causeway has had a wonderful opportunity at stud so far, and has produced some fine runners, but he has a LONG way to go before I would speak his name in the same breath as Kingmambo or Storm Cat.
If this was November I believe Ashford would raise Giant's Causeway to $250k to position as a less expensive alternative to Kingmambo (I'm laffin' but not kidding) or all the way to $300k to challenge him directly.

Many will point to his 10 stakes winners, but thats only I think 3 or 4% of his foals (not looking at the numbers) and thats low. The median thing is worrisome as well. I hadn't thought about the Kingmambo angle but it makes sense with Kingmambo's neck issue. Good job Pete!

he has 11 stakes winners! (Frost Giant won a Group 3 in Ireland on Monday). You musn't undercut his accomplishments
