Touch Not's Tattoo number
Hi there, could anyone tell me the tattoo number for the 1982 "touch not" mare? I rescued this mare, she was skin and bones and at the auction she had a leather thoroughbred halter on that said "touch not" like she had just come from a farm. The owner of course took the halter and put a dinky one on her. If this is the mare's real name I'll buy her a new one for christmas. Thanks.
Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds make great riding horses!
Touch Not was exported to Japan in the late 80's, but returned the the States a decade or so later. She last had a registered foal in '02.
If you've had her more than three years, then it's doubtful that was her registered name. Chances are that halter had been passed around quite a bit!
If her tattoo is legible, you can have the Jockey Club research it (for a fee).

Touch not
Hi there, I got Rose February 27, 2004...when I had a vet come out in September 2004 for her coggins he said she was 23 years old (the same age as this "touch not" horse and he could only read three consecutive digits ?579? is what I have on the coggins. Your right theres a good chance shes not but I would love to find out. I believe the jockey club needs all the numbers and letters. I found a place in Maryland that will do extensive tattoo research for $50 with photos of the horse and the tattoos...I just can't seem to get good enough pictures! Thank you for your help...its very appreciated. Jen

If she is 23, her tattoo would start with either the letter M or the numbers "82" Sometimes when you have clues you can decipher the tattoo... good luck. Regarding the rest of the tattoo number, it would only be found on her registration papers. You don't need the number if you know the name of the mare.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Hi, why not save some money... and then if this idea pays off, you'll already have a precious keepsake at no additional cost:
Contact Aqueduct Race Track in New York and inquire as to how you can order a back winner's circle photo from October 29, 1984 for "Touch Not" (6th race). Then just compare the pictured horse to the one you have/know.
If you are lucky, trainer Woody Stephens will be in the picture you obtain.
He's the same Woody Stephens who was in the midst of winning five consecutive Belmont Stakes at the time.
Hope this works.
