I would like to add to your list of the mare Special by Forli = Hyperion branch of (Gainsborough)

Special is the dam of Nureyev and grandam of Sadlers Wells.
Special is too be found in many superior runners pedigrees and is an out
cross for the (Phalaris) stallions.

Their are 2 stallions in Euro Effiso and Cadeaux General that decend from the Hyperion branch of (Gainsborough) that the Blood Horse left out of their sire line chart. This Hyperion branch of (Gainsborough) is coming up empty as their sons are not reproducing stallions to keep this line alive.

What are one's thoughts on line breeding Flower Bowl

Postby Keith » Sat Nov 12, 2005 12:08 pm

What are one's thoughts on line breeding Flower Bowl via His Majesty and Graustark which would be 5x5 Ribot, 5x5 Flower Bowl, and 5x5 Princequillo breeding White Wedding a daughter of Siphon to Versify a 17.2 hand son of Seattle Song and out of a Cougar II mare. He is a half brother to Hasten to Add. My mares 2nd dam is by Prince John. Hasten to Add is by Cozzene who is out of a Prince John mare. I have two mares I plan on breeding and I am looking to breed to Hunting Hard and Versify. I have also thought of breeding Lady Wrong Song to Versify and possibly breeding White Wedding to Hunting Hard. I have also thought Lady Wrong Song would make an interesting cross with a son of A.P. Indy. Seattle Slew's dam My Charmer is line bred Baby League. My mare has Striking on the bottom side by the way of Amazing. Getting back to talking about line breeding mares. Stevie Wonderboy is 3x3 Weekend Surprise through A.P. Indy and Summer Squall. Wonder how Lassie Dear will line breed when you consider Lemon Drop Kid?

Hi Harperstown: I hope and pray both Pastoral Pursuits and Goodricke make it as stallions, as this Hyperion branch of Gainsborough can be reborn again. Thanks for you good news, may peace be with you. Louis.

A mare gets one X chromosome from her dam and one X chromosome from her sire and she only has a 50/50 chance of passing her dam's X chorosome to her daughters.

If I have this correct it seems that after several generations it is statically impossible that either of a mare's X chorisomes come from her tail female family unless it has been reintroduced by a stallion that also carries that X chorosome.

Linebreeding to Banish Fear through Cosmah (via her sire Cosmic Bomb) and Prince John (via his dam Not Afraid) has worked very well. Think champion Rainbow Connection and millionaires Basqueian, Peace Rules, Roses in May; SW Dust Bucket, etc.

American racing could sure use a shot of Hyperion right about now. But I don't see much hope of that happening. Do you know of any American sires still left with male side Hyperion? My first introduction to a Hyperion son was through Aristophenes. 30 years ago the Man I was working for Claimed an 8 year old Argentine bred by Aristophenes. He'd made around $300,000 at the time with close to 80 starts. His bone and confirmation were about as good as it gets and would put to shame horses of today... and he was ALL HORSE.... and sound as a bell of brass. They don't make them like that anymore... or if they do can somebody tell me where I can get one?

Horsenuts--Find a few really nice Danehill mares and send them to Canny Lad (AUS). He's getting up there in years, but could still throw a good one or three. Canny Lad over Danehill would be a reverse cross of useful runner and siring sensation Redoute's Choice, and Danehill/Bletchingly is one of the more potent crosses down under.
