breeding suggestions

Postby cjl » Wed Dec 28, 2005 3:46 pm

:) I'm looking for breeding suggestions for 2 mares- Plus Beau and Ginger Ann. I'm breeding Plus Beau to sell the yearling, Ginger Ann I would keep to race or if I could come up with a marketable yearling that would be great. Any suggestions? I would like to stay in the 15,000 price range for plus Beau and around 10,000 for Ginger Ann.
Plus Beau- Beau Genius/ Do's Gent
Ginger Ann- Saratoga six/ mitten's Kitten

Plus Beau's full sister, Gen Corp Purposes, has several succesful stakes fillies by Military. Do you think a yearling by Military would sell well at the Fasig Tipton yearling sale? He is not as commercial as some of the stallions I've considered. She had a Salt lake filly that sold well last year.
I need advice form some one more experienced!

Plus Beau to REPENT
A substantial outbreeding (but ND...); hids more stamina you may suppose; I think may sell very well (waiting for some good products)
But stands in Florida.
Other possibilities in Florida (if you plan to visit): LIDO PALACE, TRIPPI (recommendable for Ginger Ann, too)

For Ginger Ann, you might look into a foal share or season at auction for Stormy Atlantic--he's getting good runners and has a $100k+ winner out of a Saratoga Six mare. If not, his son Indian Ocean stands for $4500 although he is unproven.

Tiger Ridge also looks interesting. He is getting good runners out of a wide variety of broodmare sires, and stands for $7500.

For Plus Beau, even though the cross is somewhat heavy on the inbreeding, I really like Burning Roma in Florida. A Burning Roma-Plus Beau foal would have good speed up top but plenty of solid stamina influences back there (notably Nijinsky and Princequillo), and doubles up on Double Jay. The last one really jumped out at me, as several of Beau Genius's best runners are linebred to Double Jay.

On the downside, he is unproven, and as I said there is quite a bit of inbreeding (4 crosses to Northern Dancer in 5 generations).

Thanks for your input! I really want to stay with Kentucky studs if possible. I seem to do better with Kentucky sires and I'm shipping to
Lexington anyway. Any more info would be greatly appreciated! :D

Plus Beau, I would go with a Turn-To mating and I like Out of Place because the of the buckpasser in his pedigree also. There are some examples of race track success to Beaus genius with these lines. I believe Devil His Due and Southern Image are good choices also.

Ginger Ann wasnt as clear cut (to me) but saratoga six has had some success with Cox's Ridge also. Since I saw that option I would probably try to take both mares to the same stud for multiple discount if offered.
