Looking for registered name of my mare

Postby Lappidum » Wed Jan 11, 2006 11:04 am

I recently purchased a thoroughbred that previously raced...and would like to find out about her pedigree...I don't even know her registered name. When I acquired her, they only called her Missy, but I believe it has Mart and Mist in her registered name. Her tattoo is not very legible, but how I decipher it is is Y10850. She is a bay mare, believed to have raced in the Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia area, just because I live in Maryland, and purchased her in Maryland. I would like to do some research on her background, what she had done, where she was, etc. She is an awfully nice mare that I have re-trained to be a hunter, and seems to really enjoy it. I thought about even naming her back to her pedigree name if I could find out what it is.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The only people who can research a tattoo and tell you the name of the horse are at the Jockey Club. The charge is $35, and you will have to provide the complete tattoo. If it is on his Coggins, it is on his upper lip. (copied and pasted from another thread for tattoo research)

 Yup... those are my words... the Y indicates she was born in 1995, so she is 11 now. Otherwise, there you have it, only the Jockey Club can research a tattoo.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

I am reeeeeeeeeeeally unqualified to say very much given what fairly small amount of information you have, and how very many registered Thoroughbred foals are out there, but I took your statements and made wild guesses.

There are many names that start with Mist or Missy or something near to that, and very few that start with Mart, so Missy is where I began.

(I recognize clearly that you didn't say the name had to begin with either of those syllables)

I narrowed the data using APR to females born in 1995, and that wasn't too difficult. Then I further reduced the group using former runners and those bay in color.

After looking at the backgrounds of each I think that one on the list stands out a tiny bit when compared to the rest.

There is a Bay mare foaled in 1995 who spent her entire career racing in PA, mostly at Philadelphia Park, last starting in October of 1998.

Her name is Missy Lizzi

by Mane Minister from Deep and Cold, by Late Act.

breeder East Windwood Farm in Kentucky

owner M. W. Baker Jr.

trainer H. S. White Jr.

(Sold Sept. 9, 1996 at Keeneland for $5000)

Keep in mind this really is a needle in a haystack of 35,000 (OK, 17,500 if only half were females, and less if we restrict to those bay in color)

Perhaps you can think of a couple of more tidbits that someone told you, which might unlock the whole thing.

Otherwise the $35 is the way to go for all of the answers.

Bring the official data here and inquire about winning race dates for pictures.
