Yeah after watching this race, I couldn't pay a whole lot of attention to the horse because I was so honked at the jockey. Guess I wasn't the only one. That horse didn't need to do anymore and was trying pretty hard as it is. I don't expect that guy's gonna be well-looked after to get a Derby mount any time soon. This is a quote from the Bloodhorse article on Derby Watch from Steve Haskin. I'd be fighting the urge to smack a jockey if he pulled a stunt like that. It looked pretty lousy watching it on Wire to Wire.
"The most dynamic performance of the weekend was the 14-length victory by Achilles of Troy in the Count Fleet Stakes at Aqueduct. It wasn't so much the margin of victory as it was the explosive move he made on the far turn to blow the race wide open. Granted, the two horses he blew by were 50-1 longshots who were engaged in a suicidal battle on the front end, but he certainly destroyed everyone else in the field as well. The only negative aspect of the race was jockey Alan Garcia whipping him in the final furlong, despite being a dozen lengths in front. After one of those whips, Achilles of Troy jumped back to his left lead."

Hi Heidilady,
I suspect that Garcia had instructions to keep after the horse all the way to the wire.
I posted elsewhere that Ernie Paragallo is pining for another stallion and that'snot far from the truth. His stable has been quiet since he and Lundy parted ways.
The larger the margin of victory the more attention he'll be paid - until proven otherwise.
Regards,
Pete
